Pierre Fauchard was a French physician, credited as being the “father of
modern dentistry’. Before Fauchard, people would often go to barbers or
tooth-pullers to have work done on their teeth instead of doctors.
Tooth pullers would often use crass tools to pull teeth, often pulling healthy
teeth along with the problematic ones.
Fauchard wrote a book called Le Chirurgien Dentiste (“The Surgeon
Dentist’), published in 1728 which turned dentistry into a science. He
