EL 104: Speech Choir

Inspiration: Moana

I am Moana of Motunui. Aboard my boat, sail across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti.

(humming) (murmurs: sail and see~)

A horizon’s waving from afar, waves are dancing in front—they are all far.
What will I see beyond the lines and curls, of comfort and turtles?
In my mind, I have already reached those far, great reefs.
All that’s left to do is step…

BACK. Step back, Moana!

Beyond the reef are monsters and ah! Harsh waves... death…
Drowned in the ocean of tears, even under an ocean of stars, all are in vain.
YOU will be in vain! So, step back, Moana.

(Dancing grandmas pass by.)

But someone will have to, someone will do.

Long ago, a mistake was made; he who did will correct his deed.
But someone will have to, have to take him and go.
Where the deed was done, sorrows shall be gone.

(humming)

Maui, shapeshifter, demigod of the wind and sea. I am Moana of Motunui. Aboard my boat, sail
across the sea, and restore the heart of Te Fiti.

You’re welcome, I cannot. No, I don’t need to and I won’t.

It was your fault!
I did it for you, for your people—for you, PEOPLE.
If my intention broke all of you, don’t worry, princess—I am broken, too.
Maui, you have to restore the heart!

(Te Kā growls)

In the beginning, there was only an ocean, and then me.

I had the gift of life, so, I shared you thee.
Gave you trees, coconuts, stones, and fishes;
Filled your plates, covered your bodies, and granted your wishes.
My heart was overwhelmed with your smiles of gratitude;
You called me your blessing.
But… how dare a demigod stab me ever?
How dare you ignore my pains and whispers of anger?

Intercept: I AM MOANA~

Head in spirals, I will never let you pass.

(Faint shout: Te Kā!)
Give me the heart or this life will be your last.
(Determined shout: Te Fiti!)

(Te Fiti yells in pain. Moana holds up the heart.)

We were dumb and need, I am sorry.

(Maui: I’m sorry!)
Your burns do not suit you, greens do, Te Fiti.

(humming)

We are Moana of Motunui. Boarded our boats, sailed across the sea, and restored the heart of
Te Fiti.
