Reconstruction Subject: US History Date: N/A x Unit: Reconstruction Era Lesson: Post-Reconstruction Standards:8.11 Students analyze the character and lasting consequences of Reconstruction. 1. List the original aims of Reconstruction and describe its effects on the political and social structures of different regions. 5. Understand the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution and analyze their connection to Reconstruction. Materials Needed: Chromebook, pencil, Learning Objectives: Students will analyze pen, and graphic organizer, the perspective of diverse individuals during Reconstruction to determine whether or not Reconstruction was sucessful for African Americans. Structure: Students will read a short biography about an individual and onaylze how this person would feel about Reconstruction. Students will check off whether their character would feel positive about it or have negative feelings about it and explain why. After students are finished completing their graphic organizer, they will write a short essay explaining why their character would feel that Reconstruction was a success or a failure. The purpose of this assignment is to recognize how Reconstruction postively and negatively impacted people from across the South. Students will become cognizant of how each historical individual is motivated by different needs and wants. Moreover, students will connect this to our next lessons when we begin going over the Civil Rights Movement later on in American history. Resources: Graphic Organizer. (Attached separately)
