Some people think that it is a waste of time for high school students to study literature, such as novels

and poems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

“Knowledge is the real power.” A quote by Albert Einstein can be perceived to any discipline of study.
There is a rather popular belief that literature is not a worthy field to learn in the manner of time to be
allocated to it. I completely disagree with this. Explained below are a few reasons for my inclination
including lucrative career choices and some values for a good life in detail.

To begin with, the most compelling advantage of studying materials such as novels and poem is a chance
to learn and embrace certain ethics. By reading non-fiction books, students will get in-depth knowledge
of morals and principles of life that would help them become better people which would otherwise be
impossible if they completely avoid such subjects. For an instance, a great personality Dr. Abdul Kalam
was a people’s president and loved by citizens of India. He had read numerous poems and novels which
made him a humble person in life.

Furthermore, another good reason to include literature in study is a huge number of career choices. Not
only would pupils get an opportunity to consolidate their linguistic knowledge but also, they would open
doors for themselves for some attractive jobs such as, a screenplay writer, a poet and a novelist. Such
positions require an excellent grip on language which can be developed by studying literature. For
example, famous novelist J. K. Rawlins who wrote Harry Potter novel series spent a significant amount of
time on learning literature and polishing her linguistic skills.

In conclusion, contrary to the popular opinion, learning literature has its own advantages such as great
prospective opportunities for career as well as ethical life lessons which can make a person better
overall.
