Part 1: Introduction
Aim (Research Question):

Will the amount of sugar added too the yeats and 60 temperature water affect the height of the
foam produced

Hypothesis :( it is a statement that explain an experiment. It starts with: if …then)

If we add less sugar than the result of the experiment will be less foam produced

Explaining the Hypothesis:

My hypothesis is that if we add less sugar to the yeast and water solution, we will get more foam
than if we add more sugar to the yeast and water solution.

Independent Variable (is the variable that we change throughout the experiment)

The milligrams of sugar that we use in the experiment

Dependent Variable (is the variable that changes because of changing other variables)

How much foam was created in the reaction

Controlled variables (are the variables that kept the same throughout the experiment)

The temperature of the water

Equipment:

- 15 grams of yeast

- 30 grams sugar ( separate into 3 bowls with the measurements of 5g, 10g and
15g)

- Water ( 60c)

- 2 funnel

- A cup

- A cover for that cup

- Scale for measuring height of foam

Procedure (is the method or the way that explains how you did the experiment. You always
use “past tense” in writing it. Write how the variables were changing and controlled):

1) First we labeled 3 cups (5g, 10g And 15g).

2) Then we separated the yeast into 3 cups (each 5 grams).

3) Then we put 5 grams sugar in a cup and repeated this with different
measurements ( 5g, 10g and 15g )

4) Then we put the yeast and the different measurements of sugar into a cup
and put the water ( 60c ) afterwards and closed the cup.

5) We set a time for 15 minutes and every 5 minutes we measured the height of
the foam produced by the reaction.

6) Lastly we wrote our data in the lab report.

Part 3: Conclusion and Evaluation

1. Why do cells respire?

Cellular respiration is used to generate useable ATP energy, which is then used to power
numerous other processes in the body.

2. Why do you think we use yeast to make bread? Explain.

I believe yeast is required for bread production because yeast converts carbohydrates to ethanol
and carbon dioxide. This is required for the bread to rise because carbon dioxide is trapped in
the bubbles inside the dough, causing it to rise
3. Do the results support your hypothesis? Give a brief account to your
answer.

No, the results do not support our hypothesis because we stated in our hypothesis that the less
sugar we add, the more foam will be produced, but based on our research, that is not the case
because the foam levels for the 5g and the foam levels for the 15 g were very similar with only a
0.3cm difference, whereas the difference for the 15 g was much larger.

4. State one conclusion you can draw from your experiment.

One conclusion that i can draw from this experiment is that

5. What are the weaknesses and the sources of errors in this

investigation?

One weakness is that we only did the experiment once so we

weren't able to double check our data

6. Suggest improvements to this experiment.

An improvement we could do for next time is conducting the

experiment more than once so we could check our data
multiple times till we draw our conclusion final.
