France is a supporter of the Human Rights Council, which is responsible for promoting
and protecting human rights. which is why France is standing as a candidate for
membership of the Human Rights Council for the 2014-2016 period.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 have been approved by France
(2000). France is a co-sponsor of the three country-specific resolutions about human
rights in Iran, North Korea and Myanmar adopted annually by the General Assembly of
the United Nations, and also co-sponsored a resolution on the situation of human rights in
Syria, adopted for the first time in 2011.
France on Palestine:
The only option that can address the genuine aspirations for security, independence,
respect, and dignity of both Israelis and Palestinians is the two-State solution. If the
Quartet (the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, and France) can't get the parties
to agree on a deal, adding 19 more countries (including Saudi Arabia, Norway, China,
and Ireland) and the Arab League to the peace talks might make it easier.
