A new spheroidal graphite crankshaft (1) has been introduced. The new crankshaft has an improved
power take off drive capability. The diameter of the connecting rod bearing journals (3) on the
crankshaft has increased. As a result of this change, a new connecting rod has been introduced. The
nose of the crankshaft (2) is splineless on the new crankshaft.
Note: The two types of crankshaft, crankshaft pulleys and connecting rods are not interchangeable as
single components.
Note: The torque for the fasteners that secure the flywheel to the crankshaft has been increased from
115 N·m (85 lb ft) to 140 N·m (103 lb ft). A new connecting rod must be installed with the new
crankshaft. The new connecting rod has smaller fasteners than the existing connecting rod. The new
M10 fasteners have an initial torque of 40 N·m (30 lb ft). The new M10 fasteners must be tightened
through an angle of 120 degrees. The fasteners must be used once. For more information, refer to
table 1.
A new Short Cylinder Block Gp has been introduced as a result of the introduction of the new
crankshaft. If a replacement short engine is required, refer to table 2 for more information.

A new crankshaft pulley has been introduced. This pulley will simplify the removal and installation of
the crankshaft pulley. The crankshaft pulley still requires three screws to secure the crankshaft pulley
to the crankshaft. For more information, refer to table 3.
Note: The new crankshaft pulley does not require a separate thrust block.

Illustration 4 g02109295
Typical example
Note: The protrusion of the front of the crankshaft pulley (5) has increased by 3.5 mm (0.13780 inch).
The protrusion of the front of the existing crankshaft pulley (4) is shown in illustration 3. The
installation must have adequate clearance in order to accommodate this change in dimensions. For a
crankshaft pulley that has a single groove, the available depth for an axial power take off component
will be reduced.
Note: The torque for the fasteners that secure the crankshaft pulley has changed from 115 N·m (85 lb
ft) to an initial torque of 22.5 N·m (16.6 lb ft) with an angle of 120 degrees.
Adaptable To: The new crankshaft was introduced from engine serial numbers E4M05016,
E3M00152, E5M01518, and E3N00184.
On the 3054C and C4.4 (Mech) engines, new 359-0715 Crankshaft Gp replaces 232-7400 Crankshaft
Gp .
