“All the light we cannot see” has an exquisite story that makes
me cry a river after finishing. It is an epic journey about two different characters
who lived in separate countries but the second world war brought them together
in one place. Marie Laure was a young little girl living with her father in Paris.
Marie was blind so her father taught her how to navigate things and read books
herself. Werner Pfennig was an orphan boy growing up in Germany with his
beloved sister. He had an innate talent for technological and scientific
knowledge. In 1940, the occupation of Germans in Paris started, Marie had to
move to Saint-Malo, living with her uncle. Meanwhile, Werner was accepted to
a training school of the Nazi party and used his talent for the German military.
As time flying, both Marie and Werner suffered from the sorrow of War and
finally, they met in a special circumstance: Werner rescued Marie when a Nazi
official was about to kill her. War was the time for cruelty, killing, mascara but
it was also the time for love, passion, and loyalty. I am obsessed with this book
and still haunted by the ending.
