Key to Successful Practice

1) When you are learning an exercise, DO NOT PLAY IT FAST! It is not about speed, it is all about developing
your technique. Speed comes with time and dedication.
2) Practice in front of a mirror or record yourself to make sure you are using the proper technique.
3) Remember to watch your stick heights. The accented notes should all be the same height and the non-accented
notes should be at the same height.
4) USE A METRONOME! When you are working on technical exercises, use a metronome to track your progress and
keep a steady tempo. Each day, try and increase the speed of the metronome. As you increase the speed, make you are
following rule number one from above.
