My first reaction to the garden was surprised. I had many questions

like “where did all the trash go?” and “why did they turn the lot to a
garden?” I figured that if there was a garden, the least I could do was
help out.

I went home and grabbed some seed packets. I looked at what I

grabbed, corn seeds. Gardening always made me calm. So when I
planted the corn seeds, I felt relaxed.

When people got tired of carrying water, a man named Sam

announced a contest for kids under the age of twelve, I was excited. The
contest was for the best idea to get water. The reward was twenty
dollars. I thought about what to do while planting the corn.

As I walked home it came to me. We could connect a hose to Lake

Erie. It was perfect.

On the day of the contest, I stood on a wooden box and told everyone
my idea. But a girl said that we could collect rain in garbage cans. She
won the twenty dollars.
As soon as the contest was over, I walked to my corn. I wasn’t angry,
more like disappointed. But gardening always made me calm, though.
So I was feeling great.

The next day, there was a thunderstorm, The trash cans were nearly full.
We used them to water our plants. My corn was growing amazingly for
the past twenty days, but it wasn’t ready to be picked.

I forgot about the contest, I didn’t care anymore. For the next ten days, I
watched my corn grow. Growing plants takes a lot of patience, But I
had that type of patience.

By the next fifteen days my first corns were ready to be picked. As soon
as I finished picking them, I ran home. I showed the corn to my mom.
She said she was proud of me, and she cooked them. To me they were
the best tasting corn I ever ate.
