HISTORY OF
COMPUTER
(1942-1955)

1s t generation computers
- Mainly used vacuum tubes for memory and circuitry
for CPU (Central Processing Unit).

- It's very expensive and overheats easily.

- Uses magnetic tape, paper tape, and punch cards

as its input and output devices.

- Uses machine code as its programming language.

(1956-1964)

generation
computers 2nd
- Mainly usedtransistors that consumed less power were
cheaper, faster, more compact, and more reliable.
- Magnetic cores served as its primary memory, with

magnetic tape and magnetic disks serving as its

secondary storage.
-High-level programming languages and assembly

language such as FORTRAN and COBOL were used

in this generation

3rd (1965-1975)

generation computers
- Instead of transistors, it used Integrated Circuits (ICs) which
was invented by Jack Kilby.
- More reliable compared to past two generations, smaller,
faster, produces less heat, lesser maintenance but is still
costly.
- In this generation, high-level languages such as FORTRAN-II

TO IV, COBOL, PASCAL PL/1, BASIC, ALGOL-68, etc., were

used.

(1975 to present) 4th

generation computers
- Used Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits
- Microcomputers of the fourth generation were made

5000 transistors and

possible by VLSI circuits with around

other circuit elements on a single chip

- More powerful, compact, reliable, and affordable which

gave rise to Personal Computer (PC) revolution

- Uses all high-level languages like C, C++, DBASE etc.

generation computers
ULSI (Ultra Large Scale Integration)
- Uses
5th
Technology a better version from VLSI
technology.

- Have microchips having 10 million electronic

components
- Have AI (Artificial Intelligence) software,

advanced parallel processing, and

Superconductor technology
- Uses all the high-level languages (C and C++,

Java, .Net etc.

- Examples of them are laptops, desktops

and etc.

COMPUTER
LITERACY
What is computer literacy?

- Computer literacy implies that you have a

broad understanding of current

technology and how it is applied to address
problems.
-Computer literacy is important because it

workplace efficiency,
helps to improve

workflow, and overall experience.

how to be computer literate?

You can become a computer literate person by using your

computer skills in these present times efficiently and applying

them to enhance your life and the lives of those around you.

As a senior high school

student, how do you
promote computer literacy
in your community?"

As a senior high student, I can promote computer literacy by patiently teaching

my community how to use technology and computers. Also, using my computer
skills, I will urge them to use critical thinking skills in using social media and
web browsers to be safe from fake information and guide them to become
responsible digital citizens. With these methods, I can fight the digital divide
and promote more computer literacy in our world.
