A look at the importance of

Technology in Community Health
Today's Objectives:
1. To be able to define e-health and
explain how it relates to community
health nursing, as well as its uses and
advantages;
2. To ascertain the Philippines' current e-
situation and health sector;
3. Determine which e-health trends help
nurses deliver care;
4. To understand the functions played by
community health nurses in e-health.
What is E-Health
eHealth is the delivery of health
care using modern electronic
information and communication
technologies when health care
providers and patients are not
directly in contact and their
interaction is mediated by
electronic means.
E-Health can be considered in any of, but not
limited to the following:

SPEAKING WITH A RECORDING, GIVING PATIENT

Roles of

Community

Health Nurse

in E-Health
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES AS

DATA AND RECORDS MANAGER

The electronic medical record (EMR) of every patient at a medical facility is maintained
and secured by data and records managers.
They need to be knowledgeable about database technology, the healthcare sector, and
data collecting and storage.
They also keep track of patient information as records grow.
They maintain record databases and make sure they are accessible for use by medical
personnel.
Every time a patient's information needs to be modified or updated, it is added to their
medical records.
Using EMR, it helps to monitor trends in illnesses enabling targeted health promotion,
disease prevention, therapeutic services, or rehabilitative interventions.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES

AS CHANGE AGENTS

To change people's behaviors is to be a leader. The people involved must change if we

are to encourage a community's self-determination in selecting a safer environment.
Nurses serve as change agents by educating and directing the community in the choice
and use of relevant ICT tools.
To assess their knowledge and awareness of eHealth, they collaborate with other
community health professionals, policy makers, stakeholders, and leaders in the health
field.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES

AS EDUCATORS

A community health nurse educator works closely with the community to promote
wellness and instruct the population on how to live a healthier and more fulfilling life. A
health educator will have a deep understanding of the community they serve as a
dependable member.
Through ICT technologies, they educate families about health.
They will establish connections with community members and serve as a bridge
between the community and social services to raise the level of service in the area.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES
AS TELEPRESENTER

Nurses may need to convey the patient's case to a remote

medical expert in order to analyze, evaluate, and treat the
patient.
They facilitates the interaction between the patient and the
remote provider by providing information.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES
AS CLIENT ADVOCATE

Community health nurses must safeguard patient records,

ensuring that security, confidentiality, and privacy of all patient
information are being upheld.
They can assist patients in making educated decisions about
their health, including guiding them through a complicated
medical system, translating medical words, and assisting
patients in making moral choices.
COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES
AS RESEARCHER

They are in charge of selecting possible research areas and

creating a framework using the system's data aggregation.
Nurse researchers are scientists who investigate many
aspects of health, sickness, and health care.
