Tutorial Questions:

Explain the basic concept of purchasing power parity and comment on the practicality of
it as well as available empirical evidence.

Briefly, what are the main arguments for fixed versus flexible exchange rate regimes?
(Please read any one of the papers marked **.)

Central banks are the lender of last resort for domestic banks. How effective are they in
this role? Use Jacome et al. (2011) in your answer.

Currently some central banks are actively intervening in financial markets to stimulate
their economies. Are there any insights offered by Yamori (2005) as to whether or not
this is likely to be successful?
