Research Questions

This study sought to determine the factors affecting the waste management

practices of the students in Aurora National High School.

Specifically, this seeks answers to the following questions;

1. What are the determinants that affect the waste management practices of the

students in Aurora National High School?

2. What output may be proposed at the end of the study?

Research Design

This study follows a descriptive pattern of research which deals with the

factors that affects the solid waste management practices of students in Aurora

National High School. According to Nassaji (2015), as cited by Bhattacharya (2020)

descriptive research is a type of research in which data is collected qualitatively and

analyzed quantitatively. Descriptive research is a scientific methodology that involves

observing a sampled population in its natural environment. Descriptive research

methodology seeks to determine the 'what' of a phenomenon. Data is gathered using

methods such as surveys, interviews, correlation studies, observation studies, and

content analysis.

3.I use eco bags whenever I go to the market

6.I am fully aware on different types of waste. 3.32 Agree 2
7.I know how to properly manage my waste. 3.41 Agree 1
8. I dispose my waste through composting. 3.26 Agree 3
9. I always make sure that I get involve with

10. I attend seminars regarding this matter to
give my full capacity to help reduce our school’s 2.91 Agree 10
problem with wastes.
Composite Mean: 2.59 Agree

As seen on the table, the item stating that students know how to properly

manage their wastes got the highest mean score of 3.41 which is interpreted as

Agree. This means that students having enough knowledge plays an important role

in waste management as it directs the students' behaviour towards it. One strategic

approach to implement successfully a solid waste management program is

education.

Madrigal and Oracion (2017) suggests that with effective environmental

education, the members of the academic community become more concerned with

the mounting problem of solid wastes, have developed positive attitudes, and drive

them into collective action in mitigating the problem. Relatively speaking, Barloa

(2016) states that students’ knowledge and attitude were positively correlated with
their level of practice on waste management. Students with higher knowledge are

most likely to exhibit a good practice on solid waste management than those

students who do not have enough knowledge.

Conclusion

To sustain the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn ;

1. Students' knowledge on waste management was verbally interpreted as Agree

with a weighted average of 3.41 leading it to be one of the factors that affect the

waste management practices of the students, this positively impacts the status of

solid waste management in Aurora National High School. However, some of the

students barely show interest in attending environmental seminars which may impact

the current school practices negatively.

2. The pamphlets, as the proposed output of the study, will provide additional

information about proper waste management which may help students and the

school to improve their current practices and maintain it's good status on solid waste

management, respectively.

Recommendation

Based on the above-mentioned conclusion the researchers suggested the

following recommendation;

1. Students should improve their waste management practices by gaining more

knowledge which can only be attained through attending environmental

seminars.
