TYPE OF ONLINE SCAMS
1. PHISHING SCAMS
- Phishing is when attackers send malicious emails designed to
trick people into falling for a scam.
2. SHOPPING SCAMS
- Online shopping scams involve scammers pretending to
be legitimate online sellers, either with a fake website or
a fake ad on a genuine retailer site.
3. DATING AND ROMANCE SCAMS
- A romance scam is a confidence trick involving feigning
romantic intentions towards a victim, gaining the victim's
affection, and then using that goodwill to get the victim
to send money to the scammer.

around 63 percent in 2021. As of May 2022, there were already nearly
four thousand reported e-commerce scams in Malaysia.

1. PHISHING
- Phishing emails often tell a story to trick you
into clicking on a link or opening an
attachment. You might get an unexpected E-
mail that looks like it’s from a company you
know or trust, like a bank or a credit card or
utility company. Or maybe it’s from an online
payment website or app. This is the most
common online scam out there, it is due to
how well it works. Phishing usually done via E-
mail to get your information.
2. SHOPPING SCAMS
- These scams are based on companies
pretending to sell you products they do not
intend to send. You may get a confirmation
email after you pay, and they will certainly
take your money, but the product will never
arrive. These scams usually arrive via email or
social media.
3. DATING SCAMS
- Hackers will make an online dating profile and
work to build a relationship with you. Then,
after some time, they will ask you to send
them money, which you will be tempted to do
since you've grown to care for this person.

HOW CAN STUDENTS AVOID ONLINE SCAMS


1. Always use secure sites
- If you want to know the secure sites, it have “https” in the web address and it also have symbol of yellow padlock in browser.
2. Never ever give passwords, PIN numbers or bank account numbers.
- It is because the official companies and banks will never ask you for these details if you want to purchase from their
company.
3. Identify theft
- You can identify theft by using https://scam.my . This website you can track their phone number and their account number if
the seller have scammed people or not. This website is legal and recommended by police.

WHAT TO DO IF GET SCAMMED
1. Contact your debit or credit card company
- If you've been a victim of fraud, report it to your credit card company and ask them to clear the fraudulent transactions
from your credit report. You can also close your account and request a new one.
2. Change your passwords immediately.
- If you're a victim of online banking fraud, you can prevent it by choosing a combination of random letters, symbols, and
characters. This will block any attempt by scammers to access your account, change your details, or withdraw your
money.
3. Notify the police and file a report.
- Tell to the police about the scammer and file a report and do not to forget about evidence.
4. Report the criminal’s account to the social media platform
- Take screenshots of your conversation with the scammer. This will help the platform shut down their account faster and
stop them from making any more transactions.
5. Stop all contact with the person or organization
- If someone is asking you for money, block them from contacting you. If they send you an email or a letter, don't respond
to that either. Do not carry on talking after you realize you are being conned.
