Thank you for downloading this packet!
There are many ways to use this. You can use each page on it’s
own or use it as a packet.
In my classroom I use it by creating a packet that students keep
throughout the week. Students complete one page per day. I
model the activity/skill for them and they complete the page
independently. I meet with them and help them complete the
activity if they are struggling.
At the end of the week they complete the last page as an
assessment and turn in their packet.
This is a great way to assess throughout the week, keep papers
together, and see a progression of learning.
Remember to leave feedback to receive your TPT credits and
help me make these products even better!
Thanks,

Perfect Hot Cocoa
Samantha and Henry played in the snow all morning. They built snowmen, made snow angels
and caught snowflakes on their tongues. When it started to snow again they both realized they
were cold!
“Let’s go get some hot chocolate!” said Samantha.
“Good idea!” said Henry.
Samantha and Henry ran to Henry’s house and put their snow clothes in front of the fire.
“Do you know how to make hot chocolate?” asked Henry.
“No,” said Samantha. “But I’m sure we can figure it out!”
Samantha and Henry went into the kitchen and started pulling out all the ingredients they could
think of. They got out a pot and put in chocolate chips and water. After it warmed up they
poured it into mugs and tried it.
“Too watery!” They shouted.
Next, they tried putting together milk and chocolate chips. Once it was warm, they put it into
mugs and sipped it again.
“Not sweet enough!” They sighed.
Finally, the mixed in chocolate chips, milk and sugar. It started to bubble. The poured it into
their mug and took a drink.
“Perfect!” They shouted.
Samantha and Henry sat in front of the fire while drinking their perfect hot cocoa.

Read the story below. Highlight the transition words. Finally,

The Sport Hunt
David couldn’t decide what sport to play. His mom and dad said that he could pick
one sport and they all sounded like fun! He asking his friends what sports they
played.
Cameron played soccer so David decided to give it a try. David ran around, the
field chasing the ball, but he could never get to it! All he got was tired. He decided
soccer was not for him.
Next, David tried basketball with his friend Tanner. Tanner passed the basketball
to David. David ran down the court holding the ball and the ref blew his whistle at
him! David didn’t know there were so many rules in basketball. He decided
basketball wasn’t for him either.
David was starting to get sad. He thought he would never find a sport! Finally, his
friend Matt suggested that he try football. David put on a helmet and jersey and
lined up on the field. The quarterback threw him the ball, but he missed. As he
came back to the huddle his teammates patted his back and said, “That’s okay!”
David realized he loved football! Not because of the sport but because of his
teammates.
