I Spy Christmas

Sensory Bottle

You will need:

Empty jar or bottle
Strong glue
Sticky tape
Uncooked rice
Red and green food colouring or paint
Ziplock bag
Christmas Checklist
Christmas Picture Cut-Outs (you may wish to
laminate these). Alternatively, you may wish to replace
the pictures with small Christmas objects for the
children to find instead.
Eco-glitter (optional)

Method:
1. The day before the sensory bottle is needed, place one cup
of uncooked rice into a ziplock bag. Add red paint or red food
colouring, zip up the bag and shake it until all of the rice is coloured
red. Tip the red rice onto a tray and leave it out overnight to air dry. Repeat the process
again to create green rice.

2. Once the rice is dry, half fill the bottle with red and green rice.

3. Next, add all of the small Christmas pictures or objects.

4. Add some more of the red and green rice but do not fill to the top as the Christmas items
need space to move.

5. Put the lid on the bottle and shake the bottle to move the items around.

6. For safety reasons, squeeze glue onto the inside of the bottle top and secure the lid on to
the bottle. Allow time for the glue to dry, then add tape around the lid of the bottle.

7. The I Spy Christmas Sensory Bottle is now ready for children to discover, explore and
play with.

8. Show the children the Christmas checklist – can they find everything on the checklist in
the bottle?
