CITY TOUR - JULIACA

The city of Juliaca, known as "The City of the Winds", is located in the district of the same
name, in the province of San Román, in Puno. It is the capital of both the district and the
province in which it is located and is considered the "Commercial Capital of the Puno Region".

1.- Santa Catalina Colonial Church.- It is located in the center of Juliaca city, in front of the
Main Square. It is an indigenous baroque-style construction, where its Dome, Cover and Bell
Tower stand out. Its interior looks narrow for what is seen from the outside, its altars are made
of dark stone, its columns and vault of ashlar with an austere altar of carved wood, the local
style is visible. The predominant material is carved ashlar (hence it is known as the "White
Church of Juliaca"); and inside there are numerous canvases and works of art.

His party is celebrated in the month of November, and before which the Dance of the Little
Soldiers is performed.

2.- Convent of Santa Bárbara.- Also known as the Franciscan Convent of Juliaca, famous for its
peculiar building, in which it is possible to see a watchtower, as well as a tower, which give the
impression, as a whole, that the building was not religious. but governmental, in memory of
the old castles of the Middle Ages.

3.- La Merced Church.- Dating from the late 1980s, it has one of the most beautiful
decorations of its kind. In the city, also as a cultural tourist site, the Calceteras Gallery is
registered, which is located around Plaza Bolognesi and where textile products are
predominantly exhibited.

4.- Waynarroque Viewpoint.- Where you can find the White Christ. This viewpoint is located
near the Main Square. The Mirador dates from 1987, and from there it is possible to have a
beautiful view of the city.

5.- Chacas Lagoon.- A few kilometers from the city, and around which cycling can be practiced.
Around the Lagoon it is also possible to see Iquinito Hill, which is considered the highest in the
area, and at the top of which it is possible to find remains of some pre-Hispanic building,
possibly the remains of a walled citadel.

6.- Juliaca Carnivals.- They have a mobile celebration date, however, their programmed
activities are the same, and among those we can find Tarkadas and Pinquillos contests, a
celebration with the deceased that takes place in the cemetery, as well as placing floral
decorations to attract luck, around houses and commercial establishments.

If you visit the city of Juliaca, likewise, you cannot stop trying the delicious dishes that are
made in this area of Puno, and which are characterized by their exquisite and unique flavor,
including Chairo, Patacha, Karachi Thimpo, the Huatia, among many others.
