Signal from ANT terminal pases throgh antenna RXITX relay to ANT input tuned cizcult to grid 1 of RF amplifier tube V2, 6BZ6. Signal i amplified and through the next tuned circuit on the grid of receiver mixer tube VI, 6US, pentede section. Local oscillator signal is applied to cathode ofthis mixer and the LF, signal appears at mixer plate, The LF sina thon pases through the 9 MC crystal filter to the two stage amplifier V104, 6BA6, VI03, (6826 and thence 1o VIO2A, 12AXT power ged detector. This detector acts asa product etector, with BEO signal applied to its cathode, when receiving CW and SSB. V102B, '4I2AXT functions as an anode detection type amplifier of AGC. With no signal applied, plate curent is ze10 with pate voltae zero. When signals applied, plate current develops, resulting in a negative plate voltage which is applied tough diode D103 to AGC line Circuit provides suitable AGC characteristics of fast attck, slow decay for SSB and CW. Internal resistance of diode is low in forward direction and high in reverse disetion, AGC voltige & applied to RF and IF sages so that a wide ranze of signal Ives can be handled Detector ontpat it fed to slicon diodes DIO1, D102, ANL, then via AF gain contol, through 6BMS.AF output tube to speaker oF headphomss. “Transmiting Section Output of carer osillator V106, 12AUT is ijocted to fist grid of VI07, 7360 balanced modulator and aio signal from mic, Amp. to modulating grid of BM. Suppressed carter DSB is developed at plate of BM. This signal then passer throuch the crystal filter XFIO1, ‘hich eliminates one sideband, thus resulting in a SSB signa, 9 MC, For AM transmission (sideband with carer insertion) th BM becomes unbalanced because of switching circuitry, perm shifted by means of a vaicap diode circuit so that carrer passes freely through filter pass band. Amount of cartier insertion level is adjustable ly AM carrer contol VRS. For CW transmission, audio is disabled, and similarly as ‘or AM, the BM is unbalanced and carver frequency shifted to allow full carter to passthrough filter In the TUNE condition, a 1500 eps sitnal from the aus tone osilator TRSO3 is applied to the BM, This provides a convenient tuning signal nea iter center frequency. Level of signal is controlled by mic. gin contrat ‘The 9 MC signal after passing through the ier, is amplified by IF amplifier tube VI04, {6BA6, thence to grid of mixer tube V4, GENT, togethe: with local osciltor signal. The resultant difference between these two frequencies appeus at plate tuned circuit of mixer 1nd is the transmitting ham band output signal frequency. On 14 MC band, additive mixing feud, ‘his signal is amplified by VS, 12BY7 tuned driver and finally to power amplifier tubes VoIV7, 2x 6186A, and antenna. Power amplifier V[V7 operates in class AB2 for maximum power output The AC audio component of PA grid current, when overdiven by signal peaks, restiied by diodes D4/DS to provide an ALC (Automatic Level Control) voltage fo the IF amp stage thus reducing its guin and maintaining low distortion ‘The PA Pi network plate circuit proves attenuation to the higher onder harmonics and enables easy, flexible adjustment of impedance matching to antenna feelin, (On phone, PTT and VOX contol is ailable. On VOX, asmple of sina from microphone {8 applied to arid of V8 and then to VOA, rectified by diede D2, SH-L, producing a postive bias on the gid of VOB rely tube, causing plate current to low and relay to actuate (On CW, “straight” or “breakin” keying methods are availabe.
