    Ferro cement is a thin cement mortar reinforced with closely spaced layers of continuous wire mesh. It has high tensile strength, flexibility, durability and resistance to cracking compared to normal concrete due to the addition of small diameter steel wires or fibers. Fibre reinforced concrete differs from normal concrete in that it contains short discrete fibers that control cracking due to shrinkage and thermal stresses. The fibers increase the tensile strength and ductility of the concrete. Ferro cement is used in construction for thin shell roofs, water tanks, silos and other structures requiring a lightweight and low cost material. It differs from normal cement in having a thin mortar reinforced with wire mesh that makes it flexible yet strong.
