Business idea – Video game development company

The business idea is a video game development indie studio, with


the idea of survival horror adventure game with puzzle aspects (having
the player perform certain puzzles in order to progress to the next stage/
level).
The purpose and gameplay is to create a single player game that
tests the reaction time and quick thinking of the player, inducing the fight
or flight response for an adrenaline rush experience (this can be achieved
by having an enemy chase, scare and try to murder the player)
The justifiability is based around uncertainty, like any other
art/entertainment project, if the product is not known and there’re no
players, the product does not sell copies and it ultimately fails. To prevent
this, there’ve been created platforms for small developers to get initial
players and recognition, such as Itch.io for the first year (a website for
users to host, sell and download indie games), and if there are plenty of
players (around 100 to 500 persons in wishlist), we can plan a release in
the following year on a video game digital distribution platform such as
Steam.
For the remaining years, the plan is to listen to the feedback on the
community, use said feedback where applicable to improve the game,
while also release updates and bugfixes, and as a further income source
we can release a game expansion or downloadable content with newer
content, features and narrative.
The competition to release a quality product is high, but in the wake
of the current “trend” where many games, even by AAA studios, get
released unfinished and unpolished, with major flaws, maybe due to
investor pressure. We hope and strive to release a fully functioning game,
with all the features in the gameplay working. Our target is as less bugs
and glitches as possible.

Luckily, the gaming market trend and interest from the population is
steadily increasing, with the player base increasing by 5.6% annually,
according to newzoo.com.

At the same time, while the player base increases, the correlation with the
games revenue is strong, and so it will also increase, as can be seen in the
statistics in the figure below, published in an article by weforum.org

In conclusion, the demographic and trend factors are in favor, the
attention and investments in the industry are high and on a steady increase
yearly. And so, the choice I’ve made sounds more and more plausible, since
if there is demand, we shall create a good quality product to supply the
customers with what they look for and need. Changes become favorable,
and so the hardest external factor to tackle remains the initial recognition.
