GENERAL
This manual has been compiled in accordance with the requirements set out in
ATA2000. ts purpose is to provide standard repair and maintenance instructions for the
Noorduyn Norseman NNAL141-1C skycot.
LAYOUT OF MANUAL
This manual contains a general description and operating guidelines as well as
instructions for maintenance and repair of the NNAL141-1C. This is followed by an
illustrated parts list (IPL) containing detailed information.
REVISIONS
This manual will be updated when required by revisions.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. GENERAL
‘The purpose of the NNAL141-1C skycot is to provide a comfortable and safe cradle for
a baby weighing up to 25 pounds/12kgs aboard all commercial aircraft.

Construction

The NNAL141-1C is manufactured using a vinyl body padded with an open
cell foam rubber, stitched to a light weight aluminum frame.
The top and bottom are made of nomex netting to allow for proper
ventilation.
The top can be unlatched and rolled back for easy access.

‘The NNAL141-1C skycot is designed to be installed in the passenger cabin
of all commercial aircraft on the aft side of any bulk head equipped with the
proper fittings.
A carrying case made of the same material as the NNAL141-1C skycot, is
supplied for ease of handling and storage purposes.
The materials used in the NNAL141-1C offer excellent resistance to mildew
and bacteria.

OPERATION
A
Installation instructions
(1) First unfold the unit then swing out and lower the support arm so that all three
quick release pins are parallel and pointing in the same direction.
(2) Inspect the unit for loose fasteners or damage. If nothing is found proceed to
step (3).
(3) Line up the two top release pins with the appropriate fittings in the bulk head;
insert them by depressing the button on the head of each pin simultaneously
and engaging the pins into the bulk head fittings until they reach bottom
release the buttons and the skycot should lock into place, repeat this
operation with the third pin on the arm.
(4) Verify that the pins are properly engaged by pulling the skycot away from the
bulk head at each pick-up point, if a pin releases, repeat operation (3) once
more.
(5) If one or more pins do not engage, no further attempts should be made to
install the skycot on board the aircraft.
Caution: An improperly installed quick release pin could cause the skycot
to disengage during flight which could result in injury to the infant
occupant or a seated passenger
(6) To remove the NNAL141-1C repeat installation instructions in reverse.
(7) The NNAL141-1C skycot should not be used during taxi, take off, landing and
turbulent weather.
NOTES: During the installation, if any discrepancies are found at step (2) or
problems with installation at (4), the unit should not be installed. It
should be reported immediately and sent for service.
‘When in doubt concerning the serviceability of a part or a whole
unit, that unit should not be installed but sent for repair.

‘The following steps should be performed on each NNAL141-1C before being
ut into service; all units not meeting the following requirements should be
sent for repair.
Certain parts can be replaced in house, but we strongly advise that units be
returned to the manufacturer for repairs to assure the structural integrity and
proper functioning of the units.
{a) A system should be set-up by the user to assure that every NNAL141-1C.
unit gets a full inspection on an annual basis or every 1000 hrs. of
continuous flying time whichever comes first.
The support arm should pivot freely but firmly. Units showing excessive
looseness or jamming must be repaired. Check screws securing arm to
skycot. Tighten loose screws. Replace missing screws. Item 20, Figure 1
‘Check the three (3) quick release pins. Check that they are secured with the
snap washer and retaining cable.
‘Check the dimension across the surface of the balls (in the locked position), it
should be minimum dimension: 0.275"-.000.
Pins should be free of bends or deep surface gouging.
Check the four buckles on the top flap.
Verify that they are not broken or missing and that they engage well and hold.
All damaged or missing buckles must be replaced.
Check the general structure of the skycot by gripping it at both extremities of
the unit and applying a twist motion, Skycots showing excessive looseness
must be repaired.

Check all snaps and grommets. All non functioning or missing hardware
must be replaced.
Check vinyl and netting for cuts and tears. Surface nicks in the vinyl can be
tolerated. Cuts longer than 1 inch in the vinyl should be repaired. Tears
longer than 3/8" inch in the netting should be repaired.
Check stitching for breakage and unraveling. Stitching unraveling longer
than 1 inch should be repaired.

1. GENERAL
A. Refer to the section testing and troubleshooting to establish the probable cause of
the malfunction and the extent of disassembly required before proceeding.
Wherever necessary parts should be marked on disassembly in order to avoid
errors, and facilitate the subsequent assembly.
2. PROCEDURE (reference IPL figure 1)

(1) Using a razor knife cut thread securing strap to bassinet cover.
Care should be taken not to damage material.

CLEANING.
SKYCOT
A. For regular cleaning of the skycot use a high alkalinity industrial liquid detergent
with hot water 140°F/60°C. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Do not use soap
on nomex netting.
For stubborn stains or for disinfecting the unit use Fantastik with bleach not diluted.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
Difficult stains can be cleaned using liquid bleach diluted in water, recommended
strength 10% bleach / 90% water.
Avoid extended exposure of netting to bleach. it will cause strength loss,
stretching and an eventual discoloration of the material.
Notes: (a) Do not use bleach around lettering it may remove it all together.
(b) Before applying bleach solution to material perform a test on a non
visible area for material compatibility. Exposure time should be kept to
a minimum, and exposed area thoroughly rinsed with clean fresh water.
{c) When cleaning, technicians should wear gloves and any other safety
wear recommended by product manufacturer. Chemical supplier's
procedures should be followed closely.
PARTS:
A. Quick release pins can be cleaned in MEK based solvent.
B. Arm can be cleaned with solvent but a test should be performed on a non visibl
Portion to assure that solvent will not strip paint.
C. Plastic buckles can be cleaned with Fantastik with bleach.
Do not use solvent on buckles.

1. GENERAL
In cases of wear , damage or corrosion found on parts during inspection, parts will not
be repaired but replaced.
2. REPLACEMENT
A. Replace all damaged wom or corroded parts.
B. _Alllock rings removed during disassembly must be replaced.

‘A. Mechanically fastened components should be assembled using standard shop
practices.
B. When part replacement is necessary only identical parts should be used.
As an assistant to assembly refer to illustrated parts list figure 1
D. When installing quick release pin (30) after inserting pin in hole and securing with
locking ring (40) install securing cable, clear heat shrink wrap and oval sleeve.
‘Squeeze oval sleeve with pliers, position clear wrap over oval sleeve and shrink
with hair dryer.
2. STORAGE
‘A. The unit should be cleaned before storage.
B. Unit should be stored in a dry area.
