Item No.- 09

SLP(CRL) No. 002264 - / 2021

Case title - TARUL LATA @ TARUN LATA vs. STATE OF HARYANA

Case Detail: Petition(s) for Special Leave to appeal arising out of impugned final judgment
and order dated 19-01-2021 in CRMM No. 15847/2020 passed by the High Court of Punjab
& Haryana at Chandigarh.

Facts:

On behalf of the State Yashpal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Palwal has filed an
affidavit, which reveals that an amount of Rs.1 crore 88 lakhs stood deposited in the bank
account of the petitioner as well as in the account of her son Pravesh Kumar between the
years 2011 to 2016. Petitioner was a District Programme Officer in the Department of
Women and Child Welfare and her son is a student in Himachal Pradesh.

High court observed:

Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner has tried to make out a case that the amount
which stood deposited in the bank accounts of the petitioner and her son was received by
them from the husband of the petitioner, who happens to be an Advocate but the custodial
interrogation of the petitioner, who was a District Programme Officer in the Department of
Women and Child Welfare, becomes all the more imperative to find out the source of such
huge money transactions.
Held by court:

The custodial interrogation of the petitioner, who was a District Programme Officer in the
Department of Women and Child Welfare, becomes all the more imperative to find out the
source of such huge money transactions.

In view of the above, the present petition is dismissed.

Orders by HON’BLE Apex Court:

Issue notice returnable in four weeks. Permission is granted to the petitioner to serve the
standing counsel for the State of Haryana through dasti service. No coercive action shall be
taken against the petitioner in the meantime.

The HON’BLE APEX Court shall adjudicate further on this issue on 12/12/2022.
