SERVICE INSTRUCTION

Instruction code: 1520 R§ 905.
Date of issue 1980-03-07.
Instruction subject: Mounting the starting air valve.
THIS CANCELS THE SERVICE INSTRUCTION 1-27-£ OF 1977-07-29.
The above Service Instruction was cancelled in September 1979.
At thot time a constructional modification vas introduced, to
the effect that from that date a locking ring 1520 RS 115 would
be fitted round the velve stem.
If it is intended to fit all cylinders at one time vith the
modified starting valves, this can easily be done at @ time vhen
all cylinder heads are taken doun for close inspection.
If one or more starting valves are replaced occasionally, the quickest
vay to carty out this operation is the procedure described belov:
1. Jaking off the starting valve.
1.1 Remove the piston vith the connecting rad on the control
side of the engine.
1.2 Remove the folloving parte from the cylinder heads
the protecting cap,
the internal lub.oil line for the rocker arms,
the complete rocker erm bracket,
the decompression line on the starting valve,
the plug on the starting valve.
1.2.1 Cover the space round the pushrod, so as to
prevent parts from falling into the cam
follover casing.
1.3. Turn the erankpin towards the exhaust side of the engine.
1.4 To prevent the starting valve from falling doun, clemp e
piece of round ood of § 15 nm and 610 mm in length betveen
the bottom side of the starting valve and the crankweb,
1,5 Take off the fostening members from the starting valve.
1.6 Remove the piece of round wood, at the sane time catching
the starting valve.

2. Mounting the modified sterting valve.
2.1 Fit the new starting valve and clamp it by means of
@ piece of round wood, first as described in item 1.4.
2.2 Slide the locking ting 1520 RS 115 round the valve
stem until it is a snug fit in the groove meant to
accommodate it.
2.3 Lover the distance sleeve 1520 RS 114 round the valve
stem and over the locking ring.
2.3.1 The distance sleeve must have sufficient
cJearance round the locking ring. Tf it has not,
the hole # 8 nm must be enlarged to max. 8,3 nm
(see the diagram £ on page 3).
2.4 Fit the valve spring 1520 RS 109.
2.5 Position the two conical halves 1520 RS 111 in the
conical sleeve 1520 RS 112 (see the diagram A, B and
C on page 3).
2.6 Give the tuo conical halves a few light taps with a
short piece of pipe, so as to make them lodge themselves
snugly round the valve stem (see the diagram D on page 3).
2.7 Remove the piece of round wed from below the starting
valve.
2.8 Give the head of the starting valve a few light taps.
2.8.1 This should now open sufficiently far and
return to the closed position each time after
opening.
Remark on the engines supplied before the middle of 1973.
If the starting valves of these engines have not been modified,
i.e. if no starting valves vith double locking nuts or with
cones have been fitted, the plug 1503 RS 101 (length 54 mm)
must be also replaced by a plug 1503 RS 104 (length 59 mn),
vhen the constructional modification is applied (see the
diagram F on page 3).
