Jack: Alright then.

I will reconsider giving my consent about Cecily getting married to

Algernon.
Algernon: What is it?
Jack: [Turns to Lady Bracknell]. If you give me and Gwendolen your consent of us getting
married.
Lady Bracknell: Absolutely not! There will be no more word about that marriage! There is no
way that it is happening.
Jack: But why? How can you expect me to give my consent to Cecily and Algernon, when you
won’t give me yours? That is not fair in any way imaginable.
Lady Bracknell: I do not care. It is not happening, that’s it!
Gwendolen: Oh, come on mother. Why can you not give them your consent? What is the big
deal? I cannot believe that you only want Algy to marry Cecily because she is wealthy. They
love each other and that is why they should get married. Just like I love Jack.
Lady Bracknell: But he lied to you.
Gwendolen: I know, but I still love him. And so does Cecily. Algy lied too and she still loves
him. Love is the reason someone should get married.
Lady Bracknell: [Sits down on the couch]. Do you really love him that much?
Gwendolen: [Joins Lady Bracknell on the couch. Yes, mother.
Lady Bracknell: Alright then.
Jack: [Cheerfully jumps out of his chair]. Alright then! I propose it is arranged then. What
about we go to the city hall tomorrow and we get married right away?
Gwendolen: Are you serious?
Jack: Dead serious! I would never joke about our love. I love you so much and I cannot wait
to spend the rest of my life with you. Therefore, I want to get married as soon as possible.
[Turns to Lady Bracknell]. Is that okay with you?
Lady Bracknell: Of course. I cannot believe I wanted to stop this. You two are just adorable
and I cannot wait to be a grandmother of your pretty little children.
[Everyone laughs]
Jack: [Turns to Algernon]. By the way, I thought you told me you never wanted to get
married. That the excitement in love is in the unpredictability.
Algernon: I know I said that, but I propose I did not know true love yet. As soon as I saw
Cecily, I knew I loved her and that I wanted to marry her. She will bring me all of the
excitement I need for a happy life.
Cecily: Only if you will no longer lie to me.
Algernon: I promise.
Jack: [To Gwendolen]. I also promise to never lie to you again. I will forever be honest.
