I watched the movie Chappie by Neill Blomkamp in 2015, and I felt interested in the characters

as well as the content and technology mentioned in it. In short, the story was about a robot called
Chappie and many other robots of the same kind that were invented to work as policemen and to
deal with gangsters or criminals so that human police would not get hurt during attacks.
However, the technology caused a problem; that is, the robots became too intelligent to ignore
orders and became independent, Chappie could also copy itself using the USB to copy the data
from its brain.
At that time, I thought it was just an imagined story to entertain people with interesting ideas and
the story in a film.
However, what really shocked me is that this story is becoming a reality, becoming true in real
life. I read a piece of news just a couple of days ago saying that San Francisco police now agree
to use robots that can kill in their force. Furthermore, the decision is just a signature away from
the mayor (Romine and Elamroussi, 2022). As stated by police officials, “ Explosive charges
could be added to the robots to breach fortified structures, or the robots could be deployed to
“contact, incapacitate, or disorient” a dangerous suspect without risking the life of an officer”
(Romine and Elamroussi, 2022, para 10.)
There is more to discuss; the robots are sure to reduce the risk to the life of many policemen, and
they may perform the tasks well. However, what happens if there are some errors happen during
missions, such that the robot cannot recognize its enemy but attack normal people instead? And
what if the technology is copied or turned into the wrong hand? Just as mentioned in the movie.
In fact, what is imagined in science fiction can become true one day.
