BAM Country Selection 1

The country that I would like to study for the simulation is South Africa. My love for

South Africa started when I went on a mission trip there about a year and a half ago. Not only

did I have the most amazing time ministering to the students there, but I also had the opportunity

to be immersed in their culture. Their history is also incredibly unique. South Africa is currently

under the system of apartheid (“apartness in their language of Afrikaans), which means, “a

system of legislation that upheld segregationist policies against non-white citizens of South

Africa.” Even though the leaders of South Africa have been drawing the country away from

apartheid, you can still see the affects of it today. Driving down a road, you will see a

neighborhood of beautiful houses (where the white people live), a wall, and then a village made

of mud and tin next to it (where the colored people live). I am curious to see how the political

restrictions, segregation, and other cultural aspects have an effect on South African business.
