DEATH PENALTY
Is the death penalty justified?

The death penalty is a form of capital punishment for grave


crimes such as:

• Murder
• Terrorism
• Drug trafficking
Our group’s stance is

HISTORY OF THE DEATH
PENALTY
• First established back in the Eighteenth Century B.C.
in the Code of King Hammurabi.
• The Code was then codified into Death Penalty for a
total of 25 crimes.
• The Death Penalty was then included 14th century
B.C.
• The Death Penalty is introduced to the American by
the Europeans.
PUBLIC OPINION
• Part of the public agree with the death penalty acting as capital punishment.
• Majority of the Chinese residents support the death penalty as well as the Japanese
residents.
• This is due to the fact that they think the crimes committed by the convicts are beyond
unforgivable.
• They believe in the concept of “an eye for an eye”.
• The majority of the residents of the United States favour the death penalty.

Effectiveness Of The Death
Penalty
• The effectiveness of the Death Penalty has
been a controversial debate.
• The effectiveness of the Death Penalty cannot
be guaranteed as the Death Penalty provides
various scales of impact upon the residents in
various nations.
• Not using the “perfect world” argument
because there is no such thing as a perfect
world.
• The effect is the reduction on crime rates.
• Cuts the cost on prison maintenance as there
will be no rise of the amount of inmates.
ADVANTAGES OF THE DEATH PENALTY

• The death penalty sets a seemingly seamless example for the members of the
public.
• The example being that everything comes with a price.
• The Death Penalty cuts the cost of prison maintenance as there would not be
a surge in the amount of inmates hence maintaining the cost to upgrade and
maintain the prison.
• The Death Penalty provides justice, economic stability and most importantly,
closure to these involved.
DISADVANTAGES OF THE DEATH
PENALTY

• The Death Penalty is a form of discrimination


• The Death Penalty deprives the inmates from their
fundamental human rights .
• Unfair judgement , innocent people being sentenced to death.
• The Death Penalty is unfair as the inmates are being judged
by mere humans who are , in one way or another , equal as
them.
COUNTERARGUMENTS
• When a convict commits a crime , he or she voluntarily
gives up his or her fundamental human rights .
• Any convicts who commits heinous crimes and is
sentenced to death has given up his or her freedom from
discrimination.
• The Death Penalty is enacted under a set of laws so
everyone is fair and equal under the law .
• The Death Penalty is set by laws and not by mere humans
, we are all following the law by the end of the day .
• There is a certain period of time in death row where
convicts are given a chance to prove their innocence .
CONCLUSION

The Death Penalty is justified in


the aspects of economy, morality,
justice and closure.Therefore, the
Death Penalty is justified without
any doubt and should not be
abolished.
