Abstract
Title: A hybrid electromagnetic braking system for a vehicle
The present invention relates to a hybrid electromagnetic braking system (100) for a vehicle. The syste
provides an adequate braking torque at all speeds of operation. The system includes a primary disc (20), a secondary disc (40), and a tertiary disc (70) attached over a shaft
one or more primary electromagnets (30) and secondary electromagnets (50) arranged adjacent to the primary and the secondary disc (40), a control unit (60) to control th
supply of electric current to the primary electromagnets (30) and secondary electromagnets (50). When the speed of the vehicle is above a threshold value, a retarding forc
induced in the primary disc (20) due to the formation of eddy currents therein to stop the vehicle. When the speed of the vehicle is below a threshold value, the secondary
electromagnets (50) exert a frictional force over the secondary disc (40) to stop the vehicle.

Claims:We Claim:
1. A hybrid electromagnetic braking system (100) for a vehicle, the system (100) comprising:
a housing (10) adapted to enclose the system (100), the housing (10) is arranged on a shaft (10a), wherein the shaft (10a) is coupled to a rotating wheel of the vehicle and
rotates around an axis (10b);
a primary disc (20) rotatably and concentrically arranged on the shaft (10a);
one or more primary electromagnets (30) arranged within the housing (10) on either side of the primary disc (20) and parallel to the primary disc (20) with a definite spac
therebetween;
a secondary disc (40) arranged on the shaft (10a), the secondary disc (40) is parallelly and concentrically coupled with the primary disc (20);
a tertiary disc (70) having one or more secondary electromagnets (50) arranged thereon, the tertiary disc (70) is arranged non rotatably within the housing and adjacent t
the secondary disc (40), wherein one or more friction pads (80) are integrally arranged with the secondary electromagnets (50) in such a way that the friction pads (80) ar
positioned between the secondary electromagnets (50) and the secondary disc (40);
one or more springs (90) arranged with the tertiary disc (70), wherein the springs (90) enable the tertiary disc (70), the secondary electromagnets (50) and the friction pad
(80) together to perform reciprocating motion along the axis (10b) of the shaft (10a) during operation of the system (100);
a control unit (60) having two output connections, one of the output connections of the control unit (60) is connected to the primary electromagnets (30), and the other
output connection is connected to the secondary electromagnets (50) wherein the control unit (60) detects the angular velocity of the shaft (10a) and controls the amoun
