Two Minute Write

Make a list of everything you know or have heard about migrants.

Remember to write down new things as you find them throughout the lesson.
Objectives

● Students will have a thorough understanding of who migrant children are


and what could be in their backgrounds.
● Students will be able to recognize the struggles of unaccompanied migrant
children, and be able to come up with several ways to support them.
Who is considered a migrant?

● Migrant- A person who leaves their country ● Refugee- A person who has been forced to

● In the past few years Asians have
overtaken Hispanics by small margin.

● As of 2018, only 53% of immigrants were


considered English Proficient.
○ Under 5 years within country- 47%

● 24% of the US population believes that


immigrants are a burden to the nation and
steal jobs, housing, and healthcare.
○ 1994- 63%

● 29% of migrant adolescents have PTSD from “migrant related trauma”.


○ Exacerbated by poverty, discrimination, and unsafe living spaces.
○ Mitigated by social support and familialism.
