Realistic
Fiction
A story that could happen in real life, but
the plot and characters are fictional.
Historical
Fiction
A fictional (fake) story that is based on
real events in history.
Science
Fiction
A fictional (fake) story that is based on
science, outer space or technology.
Biography
The true story of a persons life
written by another person.
Autobiography
The true story of a person’s
life written by that person.
Mystery
A suspenseful story about a
puzzling event that is not solved
until the end of the story.
Humorous
A story that makes you laugh!
A funny story!
Folktale
A folktale is a story that has been told for
a long time by a group of people.
Fable
A short folktale with animals or
other objects talking, to teach a
moral or lesson.
Myth
A fictional story that explains how things
happen in the world and includes gods,
goddesses or supernatural creatures.
Legend
Legends are stories that have been orally
passed down from generation to generation.
Fairy Tale
A make believe story that happened long
ago that has magic and evil. The story
ends with “happily ever after”.
Fantasy
A fictional story that cannot really
happen and may include talking
objects or magical powers.
Poetry
.A verse written to create a
response of thought and feeling
often using rhythm and rhyme.
