An extreme place

Monday, October 18th, 2021

Dear diary,
Today we learned about some extreme places around the world. We read a short text about
the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It is the largest reef on Earth. It is bigger than the state of
Maranhão. In fact, the Great Barrier Reef is the largest thing ever built by living creatures.
Coral polyps build the reef using chemicals from the sea. These chemicals are used to make the
coral’s hard outer skeleton. The Great Barrier Reef is made up of thousands of smaller reefs.
