BARGAINING

EXPRESSION

Conversation 1
Customer : How much is this dress?
Shop assistant : That is 100 dollars.
Customer : That is a great deal, but can I have a discount?
Shop assistant : Sorry, that is a fixed price.

Conversation 2
Customer : Where is your discount section?
Clerk : It is over there.
Customer : So, if I get two T-shirts, I only pay the price of one?
Clerk : That is true.

Conversation 3
Customer : Excuse me, is these jeans on sale?
Shop attendant : No, they are not. We don’t have any promo at this time.
Customer : These are amazing, but I cannot afford it. Can you go down
a bit?
Shop attendant : I can show you a more affordable option that looks almost
like that one.
Customer : That would be great.

Conversation 4
Buyer : I want to buy this, but $40 is too expensive.
Seller : It is a high-quality item and worth every penny.
Buyer : It looks a little bit dirty.
Seller : It is just dusty from being on the shelf.
Buyer : If no one has bought it, I can’t be so valuable.
Seller : It is my last one because I almost sold out.
Buyer : I’ll buy it if you cut the price in half.
Seller : That is too cheap! I’ll make no money.
Buyer : This product is cheap quality! I’ll lose money.
Seller : I’ll give it to you for $35.
Buyer : Make it $30 and you’ve got a deal.
Seller : Alright, $30 sounds fine.
Conversation 5
Buyer : Ma’am, do you have imported shirts?
Seller : Of course, Miss. This section are shirts from Korea. These are
from China. All of these are the newest style. What kind of
shirt do you want?
Buyer : I need black shirts.
Seller : I have black shirts. These are from Korea and China. Here are
the branded ones, Worthington and H&M. They are very nice
Buyer : How come you sell that brand? They are not original
products, are they?
Seller : They are original, Miss. Don’t get me wrong. I never sell
dupe stuff. The branded ones are locally made in Indonesia,
but sometimes they are rejected and never got exported. So, we
sell them here instead, rather than being trashed.
Buyer : Why were they rejected?
Seller : Some minor defects in the production, like the buttons
weren’t attached properly, but they can be adjusted. The
threads were not neat enough for them. Little things like that.
But I only sell the nicest one, you can’t almost see the minor, I
guarantee.
Buyer : How much are those?
Seller : I sell the branded shirts for 10 dollars each. The Korean and
Chinese made are cheaper, they are 7 dollars. But you can feel
the fabric, they are different. The branded ones are nicer, best
quality because it’s supposed to be exported back to the origin
countries.
Buyer : Ugh, 10 dollars is out of my budget. But, they do seem nicer.
Seller : They are, Miss. I swear, they are the best quality. They are
80% cotton and 20% polyester. Very comfortable to wear.
Buyer : Can I get a discount if I buy more than one?
Seller : How many will you buy?
Buyer : Three. I need them for work. Come on, they are about to
become trash anyway if you don’t sell them. Surely with 10
dollars a piece, you will get big profit. Come one, help me here
Seller : Well, how about I gave you 1 dollar discount from the total?
Buyer : How about 25 dollars for three?
Seller : Nah, what’s different with the Korean shirts, then? I can’t go
down that low. These are nice shirts. You can try them first and
see it for yourself.
Buyer : 27.5 dollars for three, then. How about that?
Seller : Hmm, all right. But, promise me, you’ll come back and shop
here again. Tell all your friends to come and buy shirts again.
Buyer : Hahaha, okay, I will. Now give me the best three black shirts
you have and I’ll try them on.
Conversation 6
Buyer : Does this come in any other colors?
Seller : Yeah, we have this one in white and blue. I also have this
other style in green.
Buyer : How much is the blue one?
Seller : It is $32.
Buyer : $32? What about the green one?
Seller : That’s $30.
Buyer : That seems a little high. Can you do better on the price?
Seller : This is a designer bag and it has good quality. It’s a bargain
at that price.
Buyer : Is that your best offer?
Seller : That’s the best I can do.
Buyer : Well, I don’t know. I think I’ll shop around.
Seller : Okay, how about $28.
Buyer : That’s still more than I wanted to spend. What if I take the
blue one and the green one?
Seller : I’ll give you both of them for $55.
Buyer : That’s not much of a break on the price. How about $50 for
both?
Seller : You drive a hard bargain. The best I can do is $54. You won’t
find it cheaper anywhere else.
Buyer : Why don’t we split the difference and make it $52?
Seller : okay, okay. You’ve got a deal.
