Literary Forms:

1. Mythical story - Gen 2: 7 - "Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the
ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a
living being."
2. Historical Narrative - Exo 14: 21-22 - "Then Moses stretched out his hand over
the sea. The Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned
the sea into dry land; and the waters were divided. The Israelites went into the
sea on dry ground, the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their
left."
3. Epic - Job 1: 6-12 - "One day the heavenly beings came to present themselves
before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. The Lord said to Satan,
“Where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From going to and fro
on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” The Lord said to Satan,
“Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one like him on the earth, a
blameless and upright man who fears God and turns away from evil.”"
4. Poetry - Psalms 23 - "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie
down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He
leads me in right paths for his name’s sake."
5. Discourse - Matthew 5: 3-12 - "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the
kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who
hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled."

Figures of Speech:

1. Metaphor - John 10:9 - "I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and
will come in and go out and find pasture."
2. Simile - Isaiah 40:6 - "A voice says, “Cry out!” And I said, “What shall I cry?” All
people are grass, their constancy is like the flower of the field."
3. Hyperbole - Psalm 6:6 - "I am weary with my moaning; every night I flood my
bed with tears; I drench my couch with my weeping."
4. Personification - Proverbs 3:18 - "She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of
her; those who hold her fast are called happy."
5. Anthropomorphism - Exodus 33:14 - "And he said, “My presence will go with
you, and I will give you rest.”"
