Types of farming:

Arable: Only crops are grown

Pastoral: Only animals are kept
Mixed: Animals and crops
Commercial: Everything is produced to be sold
Subsistence farm: Farmers grow crops or animals for
their family.

Techniques to increase yield or production:

Irrigation: The provision of a supply of water.

Types of irrigation:
-Sprinklers
-Flooding
-Hydroponic
-Trickle Drip irrigation

Chemicals:
-Fertilizers: Most of the things plants need to grow can
be compensated by fertilizers. Such as minerals,
organic matter etc.
-Herbicides: Weeds that would compete with the crops
for light and nutrients can be killed by herbicide sprays.
-Insecticides: Crop-eating insects can be destroyed by
spraying insecticides

Mechanization: it allows farming on a larger scale.

Farm tasks are much easier and quicklier. Such as:
adding fertilizers, planting seeds, spraying against
insects, and harvesting using tractors. Capital is needed
for these improvements.

Selective Breeding: It is the reproduction between 2

species or breedings. Plants which are bigger and
produce more yields are reproduced with others with
the same characteristics to increase the production.

GMO: It is the process of altering the composition of an

organism which could be a plant, modifying its own
genes or introducing genes from other organisms.

Crop rotation: Growing the crops in the same place

depletes the soil of certain nutrients. So, if you have
many types you can rotate the place which they are
planted through the seasons.
A good crop rotation system does:
-Maintain the soil fertility and structure
-Increases crop yields
-Reduces the risk of soil erosion
