Next-Generation Transport Network

Many service providers and communication service providers (CSP) have legacy transport networks
operating at near maximum capacity. Their infrastructure components, such as the aging digital cross-
connect systems (DCSs), are experiencing high failure rates and spare replacements are hard to obtain.
These transport networks cannot scale to meet the demands of today’s growing volume of bandwidth
intensive Ethernet/IP applications and services. With these aging systems in place, revenue is not
growing optimally, so the business equation is no longer working.
To remain competitive, companies like HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers need to:
▪ Reduce the OpEx incurred through their existing infrastructure footprint, power, and cooling
requirements.
▪ Simplify network management processes and reduce the multiple, complex management systems
that result in delays and inefficiencies.
▪ Adopt a transport network modernization strategy to effectively compete, lower TCO, and meet the
requirements for next-generation networks.
M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited is pleased to propose the Cisco® Transport Network
Modernization Solution, which simplifies your transport network by integrating both time-division
multiplexing (TDM) and IP/ Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) packet traffic. This solution is built on
high-density circuit emulation (CEM) and other standards-based technologies and helps service providers
take a cost-effective path to network modernization.

Transform at Your Pace

The proposed Cisco Optical Transport Network Modernization Solution, available through M/s. Loyal
Telesystems Private Limited, is a cost-effective network modernization path for businesses with ongoing
time-division multiplexing (TDM) service requirements. This solution addresses the challenges of
migrating TDM services to an IP/ Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) infrastructure. Until today,
migrating TDM to packet-based networks has been a costly proposition. Migration choices have provided
a temporary solution to the problem rather than a long-term future-proof migration path. Migration options
such as native TDM switching over optical transport network (OTN) limit scale and don’t utilize the
available capacity in your network. Although they allow you to maintain your TDM infrastructure, they’re
not expandable to include next-generation IP traffic.
The proposed cloud-to-client solution can help businesses like HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure
Providers build a packet network for the foreseeable future. The Cisco Transport Network Modernization
Solution enables you to dramatically cut OpEx, scale your network for future growth, and reduce the
overall cost of operations. You can evolve toward metro Ethernet, L3 VPN, and IP/MPLS/Segment routing
whenever you are ready. You can use much of your legacy equipment until you want to retire it. No
radical rip-and-replace is required.

Achieve True Service Agility

Automation and orchestration of network services are fast becoming a primary area for service providers
to tackle as they seek to deliver services more quickly and at reduced costs, to compete with over-the-top
(OTT) operators, cloud service providers, and other enterprises. Concepts such as faster time to market;
simpler network operations requiring fewer highly skilled resources and resulting in improved cash flow;
and a better competitive position at lower OpEx might seem unattainable.
The benefits of automation might sound remote and unrealistic, but the promises of automating and
orchestrating network services have become a reality. Cisco collected data on operational processes
from some of its major service provider customers that automated their environments, and the results are
really appreciable and significant. The overall savings in time and motions ranged from 60 to 70 percent,
with the related OpEx avoidance from 50 to 70 percent. Over five years, that translated to an ROI of 383

4 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

percent and savings of $3 million‒$16.7 million for Tier 3 to Tier 5 providers. The data for Tiers 1 and 2
operators shows estimated savings over five years that exceed $70 million.
Service providers like HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers need a solution linking network
automation and orchestration tools with the underlying physical and virtual infrastructure.
M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited is pleased to propose Cisco® Network Services Orchestrator
(NSO), a multi-vendor, cross-domain automation platform for your service provider business. This
platform is the bridge that links business intent to your organization’s underlying physical and virtual
infrastructure.

Automate Your Operations

The proposed Cisco NSO provides a robust and sophisticated bridge connecting automation and
orchestration frameworks, operations support system (OSS)/business support system (BSS), and
DevOps tooling and the underlying physical and virtual infrastructure. A rich set of northbound software
interfaces and APIs allow Cisco NSO to integrate with any number of northbound tools and systems
easily. An extensible southbound architecture means Cisco NSO works across different vendors and
multiple domains.

Advantages of Cisco NSO

Reimagining Your Network in the 5G Era

optical layer and is delivered with a unified management system that lets you do more
with less.

Enterprise Meet your bandwidth demands by transporting traffic over a high-capacity optical
network and deploy backup and disaster recovery.

Packet Optical with High-Density CEM Technology

Cisco’s high-density CEM technology allows TDM services to be migrated across an asynchronous
IP/MPLS network with no errors and a constant delay. This technology provides the ability to terminate
TDM traffic over SONET/SDH as an interface, continuing fault propagation between SONET/SDH and the
IP/MPLS network using pseudowires running over dynamic label-switched paths (LSPs).
This technology also provides boundless scale over a protected flexible label switch path (FlexLSP) core.
Because the high-density CEM technology traverses the MPLS transport network using pseudowires,
Cisco is not bound by any technology protocol limits. Instead, the network can scale to support as many
pseudowires as required by adding additional hardware.

Operations, Administration, and Management

The proposed Cisco Transport Network Modernization Solution provides protection, operations,
administration, and management (OAM), simplicity, and manageability as robust as those provided by
SONET. The solution delivers TDM service capabilities and a robust MPLS network using resource
reservation protocol traffic engineering (RSVP-TE) with transport enhancement. It meets the industry
standard 99.998 percent SLA and 50ms requirement timing for voice services. You also have access to
the same set of operational tools you use now to track service delivery and quality (for example, support
for bit error rate test [BERT] and loopback testing).

The proposed Cisco NSO provides a set of unique capabilities that work together to help service
providers like HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers automate a wide variety of frameworks. It
provides service orchestration that spans multiple domains in your network. It acts as an interface to your
network and offers northbound interfaces for the OSS environment.
Nearly every business shares a common set of challenges and opportunities like:
▪ Improve customer experience through low-friction interaction, greater responsiveness, and increased
personalization and relevancy
▪ Lower operating expenses to either hit lower price points in competitive markets or improve
profitability where price competition is not a factor
▪ Find new sources of revenue through new products and services, out-experimenting competitors and

Real-time configuration database (CDB)

NSO captures the real-time configuration state of every device and service in the network. In a world
where network provisioning and operations teams often work with data that is as much as 70 percent
inaccurate, NSO can provide a single, scalable, and continuous source of reliable data for the network.
Stateful convergence
To achieve end-to-end automation, an orchestrator should be able to receive the “intent” of the service
and translate that to real change in the network. Your networking operations may currently rely on
workflow definitions to accomplish this—and may soon find themselves overwhelmed by a constantly
growing collection of workflows to account for each unique case. NSO takes a different approach through
the concept of state convergence. NSO fully automates the creation, deletion, and run-time modification
of network services using the same common data models and modeling language to describe services
and devices. It maps design-time service definitions to run-time network operations through a single,
flexible data model for service. NSO’s stateful convergence algorithm then derives the minimum network
changes required to meet the service definition and executes them.
Multidomain orchestration
Automation tools have typically been bound to a technology domain: a tool for the data center network, a
tool for the WAN, a tool for the optical network, and perhaps tools to manage firewalls and other L4–L7
devices. NSO can span multiple technology domains allowing you to create and automate cross-domain
service chains much more easily and dependably. Furthermore, NSO does this in a loosely coupled
manner so that the operations teams responsible for each technology domain can work cooperatively with
the teams building the service chains.
Extensibility
Cisco NSO is not so much an automation tool as an automation platform—it has the power and flexibility
to serve as a substrate for your overall automation and orchestration strategy. To help accelerate your
automation plans, Cisco has developed a number of extensions to the core platform.
For the virtualized environments, Cisco Elastic Services Controller (ESC) rides atop the core NSO
platform. ESC serves as a virtual network functions manager (VNFM) and provides the necessary
capabilities needed to automate the full lifecycle of virtual resources, virtual machines (VMs), or container-
based networking elements as part of end-to-end services. As part of a single service model, NSO can
trigger the launch, configuration, and ongoing monitoring and license management of VNFs—both
individually and in complex service chains.

Use Cases
Because of its flexibility, the proposed Cisco NSO can support numerous use cases in both enterprise
and service provider environments. The network applications and services that have been developed in
Cisco NSO include:
▪ Cross-domain workflows
▪ L2 and L3 VPNs
▪ Ethernet private line (E-LINE) and Ethernet private LAN (E-LAN)
▪ Virtual managed services such as a virtual router (vRouter) and virtual firewall (vFirewall)
▪ Border gateway protocol (BGP) management, including peering policy management

31 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

▪ L2 virtual networks
▪ ACLs and firewall policy rules
▪ Layer 4–7 service chaining
With the powerful service creation capabilities of Cisco NSO, even complex new services can be created,
tested, and deployed in a matter of days.

Key NSO Customer Use Cases

Cisco NSO for SDN and NFV

One of the industry-specific solutions the Cisco NSO delivers is an NFV management and orchestration
(MANO) stack-compliant with European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards. The
ETSI MANO framework is being adopted by more operators as they seek to virtualize their infrastructure
and prepare for the new services being spawned by the growing adoption of 5G networked IoT.
The ETSI model has three major components:
▪ NFV Orchestrator (NFVO) manages and coordinates resource and service orchestration.
▪ Virtual Network Function Manager (VNFM) manages the lifecycle, fault management, and scaling
of virtual network functions (VNFs).
▪ Virtualized Infrastructure Manager (VIM) manages the lifecycle of NFV infrastructure (NVFI). It
tracks virtual Machines and associated resources’ fault and performance management.
Each component communicates with its peers through a set of well-defined interconnections called
reference points. Cisco Elastic Service Controller (ESC), available through M/s. Loyal Telesystems
Private Limited, meets the requirements of a VNFM in an ETSI MANO deployment and will work with any
other ETSI MANO-compliant NFVO and VIM. Beyond support for Cisco’s own VNFs such as the included
Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000V and Cisco Adaptive Security Virtual Appliance (ASAv), Cisco
ESC has been validated with a large number of third-party VNFs. At the annual ETSI NFV PlugTest
events, Cisco ESC has consistently scored one of the highest rates of interoperability.
We offer an ETSI-compliant NFVO with Cisco NSO and the NFVO core function. One advantage of
pairing Cisco NSO and Cisco ESC is that Cisco NSO provides a common orchestration layer across both
your physical and virtual infrastructure.

End-To-End Automation
The proposed Cisco NSO provides service orchestration that spans between people who build services
and ones who operate infrastructure, multiple physical and virtual domains in your network, and across
different domains and vendors. It acts as a bridge between the top and the bottom of your service stack.

Cisco NSO as a Bridge

This is done through:

▪ Open, standardized northbound and southbound integrations:
o Southbound: Standardized YANG models let you automate any network service or device.
o Northbound: APIs are used for OSSs, BSSs, and other user interfaces. They can also be used
as a manual CLI to support DevOps and other new business approaches. You can achieve full
automation from your business systems to your multivendor infrastructure, running through the
same solution and interface to the network.
▪ Real-time network information: Relying on offline and inaccurate network information increases the
likelihood that service changes will result in broken configurations and dropped orders. Cisco NSO
maintains an active network view, so it is continuously coordinated with the actual state of your
networks.
▪ Broad multivendor support: Cisco NSO supports a wide range of ready-made models of physical
and virtual devices from many vendors, with more added regularly. This solution maintains a clear
separation between vendor protocol-specific code to handle device CLI and legacy protocols. With

33 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

extensive multivendor support, you can extend end-to-end automation to virtually any use case or
device.
The proposed Cisco NSO provides a fully automated, end-to-end atomic transaction control. If you make
a change to a network service or device, either everything or nothing goes through the network. If
necessary, the system reverts to the previous stable state to keep your services running.
The Cisco NSO also includes a minimum difference engine to calculate the minimum configuration
changes needed to transition from one state to another. This intelligence dramatically reduces the code
you deal with when automating network services. It also improves the overall stability of your
environment.

Cisco Converged SDN Transport for 5G Networks Details

In the very near future, 5G will increase the footprint of transport networks, number of devices, and overall
capacity of the network. As the threat surface expands, network transformation is needed to meet the
service requirements of latency, bandwidth, and connected IoT devices. Cisco’s technology allows HYD
BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers to deliver on the stringent 5G requirements and the key 5G
architectural changes.

Deliver on Stringent 5G Requirements with Cisco Technology

The 5G Architectural Transition

The following changes are needed to transition to 5G:
▪ Cloud-RAN (C-RAN): Moving from a distributed-RAN (D-RAN) to a C-RAN can reduce OpEx
overhead at cell sites, increase resource efficiency of virtualized baseband units at centralized
locations, and reduce overall RAN CapEx investments. C-RAN also delivers service agility and
spectral efficiency gains.

34 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

▪ Wireline access disaggregation: Continuous increase in data rates requires lowering the last-mile
distance to customers. Use of distributed virtual access nodes in micro data centers lowers the cost
per bit for the operators.
▪ Mobile edge computing (MEC) and virtualization: Efficient placement of services between
distributed and centralized data centers based on application latency, QoS, and bandwidth
requirements is necessary.
▪ Cloud-native Control and User Plane Separation (CUPS): The proposed Cisco cloud-native
packet core and distributed SDN architecture enable CUPS, so you can partition your network and
position functions and services exactly where you need them. This can enable latency-sensitive
services and content caching to move closer to end users.
▪ Network slicing: Network slicing enables building what looks like discrete end-to-end networks for
different 5G services or customers. SR flexible algorithm (Flex-Algo) and a cross-domain multivendor
services orchestrator enable soft slicing, while maximizing resource efficiency.
▪ Automation: Network automation is a key ingredient for the 5G transformation to enable use of on-
box and off-box data to gain real-time actionable insights. Cisco Crosswork™ Network Automation
provides a modular application ecosystem with open APIs to accelerate application and service
development as well as best-in-class infrastructure software functions to improve time to market.
Service providers can increase network resource utilization with closed-loop real-time monitoring and
optimization.

These architectural shifts require an evolution from unified multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) towards
SR and border gateway protocol (BGP) VPN technologies, pushing IP all the way down to the access
layer to enable a true end-to-end packet solution. This enables wireline and wireless network
convergence, enhanced SLAs, resource-efficient soft network slicing, less than 50ms of protection
against failures, scalable traffic engineering (TE), and a simplified protocol stack that eliminates protocols
like the Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) and the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) TE.

RAN Architectures
RAN networks represent a large portion of service provider OpEx and CapEx spending every year. You
need the flexibility to deploy any—or several—radio architectures in a cost-effective way, depending on
local/regional constraints. The new 4G/5G use cases may also put constraints on the RAN architectures.

35 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

To support the changing nature of the 5G network, one of the most important factors to address is the
current and future architecture of the RAN. Evolving this part of the network to an optimized, cost-efficient
architecture is crucial for the profitability of the mobile network’s evolution to 5G. Not only is this where
operators spend most of their money today, but being geographically dispersed, it is also difficult to
manage. Therefore, any development or evolution of the RAN to improve efficiency or reduce operational
costs requires serious consideration.
The proposed Converged SDN Transport solution for 5G networks can deliver on the tight time-error
budgets and low-latency implications of C-RAN on the transport network.
We believe that the transport network of the future should be able to simultaneously comply with all
transport network types defined by the RAN requirements, as well as enable a true wireless/wireline
convergence. We propose a converged multi-service infrastructure, where strict requirements such as
fronthaul traffic with very low latency and high bandwidth requirements co-exist with midhaul, backhaul,
and/or business services with varying SLAs in a scalable and operationally optimized way. This network
will also enable other key architectural changes introduced by 5G such as CUPS with UP distribution,
multi-access edge compute, and network slicing.

Fixed Access Disaggregation

While RANs are evolving to enable a more flexible and agile connectivity to end users and “things,” this
always-on continuous connectivity need also leads to the evolution of fixed copper, fiber, and cable
access networks. The use cases of 5G are not only expected to evolve on mobility but also on fixed
environments. Therefore, requirements such as low latency, massive scale, and extreme reliability are
also critical for fixed access infrastructures. Service providers explore the fixed access transformation to
reduce OpEx and CapEx and increase revenue. This transformation is comprised of three dimensions.
▪ Disaggregation of control and user planes and densification of fiber access
▪ Multi-service co-use of existing access networks for 5G RAN backhaul/midhaul
▪ Policy-driven and agile connectivity for seamless in-home user experience
Requirements for 5G RAN and fixed access converge on the same principles, such as similar user traffic
profiles, shared edge computing, common subscriber termination and management, and common 5G use
cases. The convergence of separate mobile backhaul and fixed aggregation into a single E2E transport
network is critical to meet the 5G use case requirements in an economic scale.

Mobile Edge Computing

Service providers like HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers must fully automate the deployment
and operations of the mobile core to expand revenues realized by offering new services defined in 5G.
New 5G use cases such as network slicing and disaggregation of the mobile core with CUPS and MEC
require deploying in the core and at the edge across public, private, and hybrid clouds. It also requires
deployment in network functions virtualization (NFV)-compliant and bare metal architectures. This
enables the service provider to offer new vertical solutions and network slices such as IoT, enterprise,
mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), and consumer networks.
With MEC, service providers can disaggregate the network by moving network functions closer to the
edge. One example of MEC is in a CUPS architecture, where the user plane functions of the mobile core
are moved to the edge of the network, while the control plane is deployed centrally. MEC enables user
planes to be distributed to the network edge to achieve lower latencies and gain the potential for locating

36 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

them in an enterprise data center. The MEC and CUPS use cases require fully automated operations
across operational domains to account for the large number of edge computing sites where these
workloads must be managed. Cloud-native technologies offer a richer set of infrastructure and tools to
achieve this level of automation.
Seamless integration between the WAN and the distributed data centers by unifying on SR and BGP-
based VPNs simplifies the network. SR MPLS and SRv6 can enable seamless service chaining for virtual
network functions.

Control User Plane Separation

Cisco CUPS for Cisco Ultra Services Platform (USP)™, available through M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private
Limited, prepares the mobile data network for 5G core network capabilities. This new capability allows
mobile operators to separate the control plane and user plane of their evolved packet core (EPC)
network. With this capability HYD BSNL Telecom Infrastructure Providers can scale each network plane
independent of one another, promoting a more cost-effective approach to core mobile architecture and
future-proofing the network for 5G.
The 5G core network will inherit the CUPS capability as defined in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project
(3GPP) releases. Also, the design of the proposed Cisco CUPS is aligned with 5G core network
architecture at inception.
Key features include:
▪ Independent scalability of the control and user planes
▪ Ability to specialize the user plane for key applications
▪ 5G readiness
▪ Lower backhaul costs
▪ Traffic offload
▪ New use case enablement

Network Slicing
Network slicing is an end-to-end partitioning of the network resources and network functions so that
selected services and customers may run in isolation from each other for a specific business purpose.
One of the major benefits of the 5G network is that it allows business customers to define a specific
requirement that can be fulfilled by the mobile operator with an agreed upon SLA through network slicing.
SR Flex-Algo and a cross-domain multivendor services orchestrator enable soft slicing while maximizing
resource efficiency. Flex-Algo provides per-user, per-application traffic steering with routing isolation to
meet any required SLA and end-user slice visibility.
Traditional routing protocols use the IGP metric on links and the “Shortest Path First” algorithm to
calculate the “best” path between an ingress and egress point in the network. This approach does not
consider real-time link latency, utilization, and loss. Flex-Algo in SR enables an operator to define their
own custom flexible algorithm, based on a wide range of variables including link latency, loss, bandwidth,
and shared risk link groups (SRLG), to achieve a specific aim. For example, an operator may have an IP
network using highly reliable fiber paths, which they own, and less reliable fiber paths, which they lease.
They want to support a highly reliable and low-latency IP service. Flex-Algo can achieve this by building a

37 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

routing table, constantly optimized with near real-time link latency information on links owned by the
operator. Other commonly discussed Flex-Algo use cases include bandwidth-guaranteed paths and
routing between ingress and egress points using disjoint paths.

Network Automation
Network automation is the ability to harmonize different types of network resources towards a desired
end-to-end intent. Economic delivery of 5G services requires a holistic setup of different network
attributes to form and build a service. Any 5G service may be composed of a combination of several
micro functions and specific orders where traffic steering needs to take place in between.

The proposed Cisco Crosswork Automation Suite provides programmable, 5G service-aware business
logic capabilities to operate large scale 5G transport networks. Service providers can set up transport
network slices according to changing needs of real-time 5G services. With closed-loop automation slice,
SLAs can be monitored and modified based on the real-time state of the network infrastructure, thus
reducing the OpEx and improving time to market. With the state-of-the-art implementation of Cisco
Crosswork Automation Suite, the proposed solution integration testing is performed in labs allowing
applications to work seamlessly in customer environments, to improve their satisfaction. Service providers
can automate operational tasks such as service-oriented network provisioning, tactical bandwidth
optimization, continuous real-time network optimization, and topology-inventory reporting using
Crosswork Automation Suite.

5G Use Cases
The growth of 5G-enabled services for different industries means service providers will need to
investigate how their network architecture can meet 5G requirements to capture these new business
opportunities. Industry stakeholders and standards organizations have identified several potential use
cases for 5G, which demand very diverse requirements. These use cases have been categorized by the
3GPP.
▪ Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB): Takes the advantages of the 5G New Radio (NR) radio
access technology (RAT) to accommodate some of the most bandwidth-thirsty applications today—
that means 4K video, augmented/virtual reality, streaming analytics, and other services that would
previously have required fixed wireless infrastructure. eMBB provides the high bandwidth and high

38 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

speeds needed for densely populated urban areas and event locations. The services expect 50-plus
Mbps data rates everywhere.
▪ Massive machine-type communications (mMTC): Supports the connection density, power
consumption, and low complexity required by IoT to keep costs low and field maintenance minimal in
some of the most challenging environments. It serves billions of low-cost, long-range, ultra-energy
efficient devices, machines, and things that need connectivity from remote locations. It also serves
cloud applications with periodic and infrequent communication.
▪ Ultra-reliable low-latency communications (uRLLC): Adds stability to provide mission-critical
environments with high-availability and resilience needs. The tactile response time is expected to be
less than 1ms. Public safety and emergency services supporting disaster response and location
services are critical for lifeline communication and recovery.
Each category of service has unique requirements essential to its applications that it mandates to the
transport infrastructure. Cisco 5G innovation, offered by M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited, is
focused on making the network relevant to the applications using it in a programmable and scalable
manner.

The Cisco Converged SDN Transport Solution for 5G

Drivers for a Converged Network

We believe that a converged end-to-end packet infrastructure starting in the access layer, stretching
across the core network all the way to the data center based on RAN and packet-based QoS, builds up
the underlying xHaul (fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul) transport network. This provides flexible

application placement, scalability, and reliability and results in lean operational costs. On top of this, we
layer VPN services, either based on BGP-based VPNs or business SD-WAN technologies, to support a
multi-service environment capable of supporting strict SLAs. These VPN technologies are the key feature
to deliver different network slices in the shared transport network. Traffic flows for required services are
set up and provisioned using SR-based traffic policies and traffic steering augmented by external SDN
controllers and path computation engines
The Cisco xHaul architecture, available through M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited, addresses the
current and future mobile transport network challenges. A smooth evolution to Cisco xHaul architecture is
possible by leveraging the technology and architecture flexibility and interoperability capabilities. The
Cisco xHaul architecture provides the baseline for future, more integrated, cross-domain interactions.
The proposed Cisco Converged SDN architecture builds upon years of experience in delivering

and testing are done with specific software releases for those designs.

IP and Optical Convergence

The proposed Cisco access and aggregation portfolio provides a comprehensive solution for IP and
optical integration to maximize the benefits of network convergence and integration. Convergence of IP
and optical network layers for centralized visibility and programmability helps to increase service velocity,
adapt more easily to dynamic cloud topologies, enhance resiliency, and decrease TCO.
The mature and rich IP/MPLS feature set available in the Cisco portfolio, available through M/s. Loyal
Telesystems Private Limited, includes the support of advanced networking protocols such as SR/SR–
traffic engineering (SR–TE), SRv6, path computation element protocol (PCEP), BGP Link-State (BGP–
LS), and programmatic open APIs for services orchestration and streaming telemetry. These capabilities
enable an SDN-ready network today.

Fronthaul Routers
The emergence of standard packet-based fronthaul interfaces and the industry’s interest in effective
transport solutions led Cisco to extend the existing portfolio with a new family of fronthaul routers. These
routers support known fronthaul interfaces, including enhanced Common Public Radio Interface (eCPRI),
Common Public Radio Interface over Ethernet (CPRIoE), and (IEEE1914.3) Radio over Ethernet (RoE),
as well as midhaul, backhaul, and business transport requirements. These new fronthaul converged
platforms have been designed to effectively differentiate and comply with the various traffic type
requirements. They assure latency and priority to eCPRI/CPRIoE streams and support advanced
synchronization requirements.
Why Packet-based Fronthaul?

41 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

▪ CPRI is a circuit-switched closed solution, characterized by legacy architecture extension, low

transmission efficiency, and poor flexibility and scalability, resulting in high cost of deployment. It does
not meet the evolving need for 5G fronthaul networking.
▪ IP/Ethernet minimizes RAN vendor lock-in. The IP/Ethernet architecture connects all categories of the
mobile network infrastructure, including fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul. In fronthaul, it enables a
converged 5G network transporting both wireline and wireless. Supporting decomposition of RAN and
packet core allows the operator to deliver network slicing using SR-based SLA-aware programmable
transport across fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul.
▪ With the emergence of 5G NR supporting IP/Ethernet interfaces, operators will be able to deliver
carrier-class RAN services using packet-based clocking, IP QoS, network resiliency, and security.

Cisco Flexible Consumption Model

The proposed Cisco Flexible Consumption Model allows us to engage our customers in a more dynamic
business manner—emphasizing the value and flexibility of included Cisco IOS® XR software. It delivers
improvements in customer TCO. The solution includes components of hardware, software, and a software
innovation access (SIA) subscription to allow a future migration to newer hardware.
The three parts of the Flexible Consumption Model include:
▪ Hardware: The hardware is separated from software suites. The hardware list price reflects the
intrinsic value of hardware, while the software list price reflects the software value.
▪ Software: There are two software options to choose from—essential and advanced. Each option has
a common SKU across an entire product role/class.
▪ SIA subscription: The SIA feature upgrade gives you access to upgrades and the ability to port the
right to use the software to next-generation routers. A perpetual right-to-use (RTU) license is not
attached to a specific router, so it can be pooled across the network and the value can be ported to
higher-capacity hardware when more network capacity is needed.

Segment Routing
SR is a technology invented by Cisco, and available through M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited,. It is
based on a source routing paradigm, where the source node defines the path that a packet is going to
take through the network. A key attribute of the 5G transport infrastructure is to easily carve out and reuse
capacity, compute, and resiliency, and guarantee latency. We believe that the most flexible and efficient
transport architecture to achieve all these are based on packet technology with SR. SR can cost-
effectively deliver this flexibility, affordability, and visibility in the transport network. It can support
consumer, enterprise, fixed, and mobile services across the transport network.
The SDN controller, Cisco SR–Path Computation Element (SR–PCE), builds and keeps an updated
network topology, which is used by its purpose-built algorithm for source routing path computation to
calculate and maintain inter- and cross-domain paths. The use of SDN controller is beneficial in the
following use cases:
▪ Low-latency path: Cisco SR–PCE can compute a path with latency, and it is delivered below a
certain threshold. With 5G and its latency-sensitive applications, this will be an increasingly important
service the network will have to deliver as critical dynamic network slices.

42 M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited Confidential and Proprietary

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

▪ Disjointed path: Cisco SR–PCE can compute two distinct paths (not sharing the same fiber and
same devices, and so on), which enables you to increase network resiliency and offer advanced
SLAs to your customers.
▪ On-demand Next Hop (ODN): Provisioning multi-domain services (L2VPN and L3VPN) comes with
complexity and scalability issues, notably, when routing information needs to be redistributed across
domains. With the ODN feature, there is no need to do any route redistribution. It triggers delegation
of computation of an end-to-end label switched path (LSP) to the Cisco SR–PCE including constraints
and policies.
▪ Resource avoidance: Cisco SR–PCE can calculate a path that avoids specific resources (for
example, nodes, link, and SRLG).
▪ Lowest-cost path: If an application does not have a low latency requirement, a lowest cost path can
be applied, leaving more room for latency-critical applications and/or reducing the requirement for
such expensive bandwidth.
▪ Bandwidth optimization: Cisco WAN Automation Engine (WAE) can compute the best path based
on network bandwidth, which can then be leveraged by Cisco SR–PCE to optimize the path through
the network.

Timing and Synchronization

Timing and synchronization are critical components of 5G mobile radio access architecture. Unlike 4G
LTE–A, time, frequency, and phase sync are mandatory to enable 5G radio connectivity. Service
providers are looking for alternative models of delivering accurate time sync to the 5G C-RAN or D-RAN
sites.
The main factors for a well-implemented timing and synchronization network include:
▪ Network elements that are frequency synchronized to the nominal frequency (small tolerance
allowed)
▪ Phase error across the network below the budget required for the time division duplex (TDD) radios
and user applications
▪ A network that can quickly lock and converge both frequency and phase to the sources of time
▪ Long holdover time, such as radio units that can maintain the correct frequency and phase for a long
period of time when they lose their connection to the master clocks or sources of time
▪ A resilient network that can successfully adapt to failures, such as a local global navigation satellite
system (GNSS) or GPS outage
▪ Cost-effective design (to build, monitor, and operate)
▪ Network implementation that is adaptable and flexible across different topologies and transmission
technologies
The Cisco 5G Transport network product portfolio, delivered by M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited,
helps you build 5G-capable xHaul transport networks by incorporating the timing and synchronization
features you need to enable innovative new 5G applications.

Security
Security is a foundational aspect of our 5G strategy. Security does not come from only protecting the
borders of the network, but by embedding security in the network. When evolving architectural concepts
are combined into the 5G architecture, the threat surface for 5G expands. The proposed Cisco 5G
Transport network portfolio comes with built-in security enablers such as Cisco Trust Anchor Module
(TAm) and Cisco Crosswork Trust Insights, also available through M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private
Limited. Cisco TAm helps verify that Cisco hardware is authentic and provides additional security
services. Cisco Crosswork Trust Insights provides signed and encrypted system integrity information to
track the trust posture of the network hardware and software components. With the use of Cisco TAm on
routers, we offer hardware root of trust, and build a chain of trust with the following principles:
▪ Establish trust in hardware: The Cisco Tam and the Trusted Platform Module are based on the
Trusted Computing Group industry standard. These include anti-tamper protection, highly secure
storage, policy and configuration, and cryptographic services, providing the most robust security.
▪ Verify trust in operating systems: Cisco uses the Secure Development Lifecycle (SDL) to build
repeatable, measurable, resilient, and trustworthy operating systems with threat modeling and
vulnerability testing.
▪ Maintain trust in runtime: Cisco performs continuous internal cryptographically secure checks on
hardware and software to maintain the integrity on the running system.
The Cisco 5G security architecture combines artificial intelligence and deep learning to create a network
that will orchestrate both physical and virtual resources with equal proficiency, resulting in optimal
network efficiencies.

Cisco NSO Components

The proposed Cisco NSO is built around three major components:
▪ A model-based programmatic interface that allows control from simple device turn-up and
configuration management to sophisticated, full lifecycle service management
▪ A fast, highly scalable, highly available configuration data store that is the definitive source of
reliable information about the network
▪ A device abstraction layer that uses network element drivers (NEDs) to mediate access between
Cisco and more than 170 other-party physical and virtual device
Taken together, these components allow NSO to provide a single, network-wide interface to all network
devices and services—both physical and virtual—using a single-state model and configuration database.
Through this common model, Cisco NSO acts as a Rosetta stone between applications and service
owners and infrastructure operations
The components of the Cisco NSO solution, also offered by M/s. Loyal Telesystems Private Limited, are

NSO – Components and Capabilities

Core Function Packs

Core function packs are available that extend the core platform to address specific use cases and come
with full support. NFVO, discussed in a prior section, is an example of a core function pack. Cisco CX can
also create function packs to meet customer needs and they support those function packs directly. Cisco
also offers function packs that extend the core platform to address specific use cases:
▪ NFVO – provides network function virtualization orchestration. Paired with NSO and ESC it forms a
full ETSI NFV MANO solution
▪ CNFO – managing the life cycle of containerized network functions (CNF) that runs in kubernetes
clusters
▪ T-SDN – automate processes associated with deploying segment routing (SR) services
▪ Routed Optical Networks – automates routed optical networks and connects the IP domain with the
optical domain

Network Element Drivers

Network element drivers (NEDs) are the key to NSO multi-vendor support. NSO currently supports NEDs
for over 170 3rd-party vendors, platforms, and operating systems. NEDs take service or device intent
(that is, apply this IP address to that port) and convert it to the commands for a specific device. This way,
you can write a single, simple service intent and NSO does the hard work of converting that to device-
specific commands in real-time. NEDs are built by a dedicated engineering team. It takes 4-6 weeks to
build a new NED from scratch and 1-2 weeks to add features to an existing NED.

Automation with Itential Automation Platform

The itential automation platform (IAP) for the Cisco NSO is a multi-tier platform that accelerates network
automation projects for Cisco NSO customers. This fast and intuitive platform provides unified workflow
definition, execution, and management across multiple southbound systems and networks. It includes
built-in connectors for northbound systems such as ServiceNow and Remedy as well as east/westbound
systems for telemetry, provisioning, and configuration management databases. The following solutions
are available with IAP for Cisco NSO for the proposed solution.
▪ Service order management merges YANG models from Cisco NSO and provides a design studio
capability to define user interaction, operational workflows, and service catalog functions.
▪ Configuration management allows users to create, modify, and manage standard configurations
based on device type, function, vendor, geographic region, and many more.
▪ Method of procedure (MOP) automation allows you to document the pre/post data collection
required to evaluate MOPs, define operational processes independent of network changes, and
compare collected data in pre/post commands.
The IAP interacts with other support systems to allow for a single interface. This interface aggregates
these systems into a single “network API” and exposes the capabilities of multiple systems in a common
operational view.

Crosswork Network Automation – Portfolio

Cisco NSO plays a foundational role in Cisco Crosswork as one of the primary tools for “Action.” It can be
used directly and also internally by other elements of the Crosswork portfolio, like the Crosswork Network
Controller.

Licensing
Crosswork Essentials and Advantage are sold as suites. Customers interested in individual
applications from the suite should consider a la carte options for each of the applications. The licensing of
the Crosswork Automation suites is based on three factors:
1. A flat annual fee that grants you access (Right to Use or RTU) to the base application software
included in the suite
2. A per-device Right-To-Manage (RTM) fee
3. 1-year to 5-year term contracts
Smart Licensing: Smart Software licensing delivers visibility into your license ownership and
consumption. Know what you own and how you are using it. It offers benefits from more straightforward,
standardized offers, license platforms, and policies. It allows you to make better-educated purchase
decisions to lower your operational costs and helps to discover the ease of deployment with automatic
license activation.
Please visit http://www.cisco.com/web/ordering/smart-software-licensing/index.html for more details.
NSO allows you to consume more licenses than you own with smart licensing.
NSO 4.6 and above requires the user to enter a Smart Account ID. However, ordering Smart-enabled
PIDs requires the customer to have a Smart Account. If you have purchased licenses using previous
PIDs, then the entitlements will have to be added manually to your smart account. Please get in touch
with the NSO PLM team (ask-nso-plm@cisco.com).

Cisco Sustainability Commitment

Cisco has a long history of setting and achieving goals to reduce our environmental impact. Answering
the call to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, in early fiscal 2022, we made
our most important commitment yet: Cisco pledges to accelerate companywide strategies to greatly
reduce carbon emissions across its value chain. Cisco commits to reaching net zero across all scopes of
emissions by 2040, which includes our product use, operations, and supply chain. We also commit to
reaching net zero for all global Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025. Our holistic approach extends
from how we design, build, and deliver products, to how we value the assets we have and turn them into
new products. We also apply Cisco technology to support our customers in their own circular
transformations and to achieve their sustainability goals.
We are going to meet our ambitious goals by:
Continuing to innovate and make our products more energy efficient, which is critical to driving down our
Scope 3 emissions and reaching our net zero goal.

Cisco Managed Any OLT/ONT Service for BSNL Hyd TIP's

Accelerating use of renewable energy: in the past 15 years, we’ve made significant investments in
renewable energy, which has helped us drive down our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. For example,
we have achieved 100% renewable electricity at our facilities in the United States and several countries in
Europe and we have a goal to use electricity generated from renewable sources for at least 85% of our
global electricity by the end of fiscal year 2022.
Embracing hybrid work: supporting a culture of well-being that is flexible and puts people first, we will
continue to make our products and our workspaces conducive to a positive and productive work
environment and empower employees to make smart travel and commuting decisions that benefit them
and the planet.

Circular economy at Cisco: five focus areas

Cisco Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Goals

Cisco technology and people are accelerating global problem solving in ways that have never been
attempted before. From solving customers’ business challenges to tackling the toughest social and
environmental issues of our time, we are helping to make the impossible possible.
We have a goal to positively impact 1 billion people through our social impact grants and signature
programs by 2025. Since 2016, we have positively impacted 530 million people.
These goals span from emissions associated with our operations, several related to product and
packaging design, and supplier emissions and waste. Through these goals, we are pushing toward big
changes.

Environmental
Our approach to protecting the environment is an inclusive future takes everyone, including future
generations into account. Cisco has set long-term goals to address the environmental impacts from our
products and business operations.

employees can be their whole selves while building new skills, exploring areas of interest, and becoming
catalysts for social change.
Powering an Inclusive Future for All is not a vision Cisco can achieve by acting alone. Partnerships and
collaboration—with customers, governments, nonprofits, and even competitors—allow us to multiply our
efforts and scale our impact. We are building these partnerships to help achieve a common vision: a
world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Governance
Our Supply Chain Human Rights Governance Committee, chaired by the Senior Vice President of Supply
Chain Operations and comprised of senior supply chain executives, maintains executive oversight of risks
and opportunities within the supply chain. This committee allows us to integrate human rights policies and
priorities into business operations and garner feedback across functions. Supply chain representatives
also participate in Cisco’s Human Rights Advisory Committee, which convenes executive and senior-level
employees from across the company to drive Cisco’s overall business and human rights strategy.
We use supplier scorecards to measure and communicate conformance to Cisco’s requirements for
human rights and environmental stewardship. Having sustainability metrics alongside cost, quality, and
service delivery allows procurement managers to make informed decisions when awarding business to
suppliers.
