PART B

(a) Record your results using the app

(a) Testing soil fertilizer

2 SAMPLES were used to do soil fertility test

 Garden soil

 Green house potting mix

(b) Comment on your observation and how would you improve your results

1 Organic matter is able to absorb and store nutrients while also retaining moisture. Above all,
organic matter provides food for microorganisms and other soil life. Compost, aged animal manures,
green manures (cover crops), mulches, or peat moss can all be used to boost the quantity of organic
matter in your soil. Because the majority of soil life and plant roots are found in the first 6 inches of
soil

2
The demand for increased food production and improved agricultural returns necessitates the
prudent use of mineral and organic fertilisers, especially because these inputs are subject to price
changes on the global market, which impact their economics.

3
3
Soil testing and plant analysis, in combination with field fertiliser experiments, are essential
instruments in relevant research and fertiliser prescription development. The need for these services
to be improved and coordinated is critical, especially in developing nations where resources must be
maximised.

With these basic considerations in mind, we can improve the result with better soil fertility:

1) They are helpful in elucidating crop problems originating from soil conditions.
1) Soil testing and plant analysis are key tools for boosting crop output through the intelligent
application of fertilisers in conjunction with other cutting-edge management methods.

2) They serve as a tool to gradually improve fertiliser recommendations and allow for a balanced use
of fertilisers at the country or regional level, as well as a tool to supplement field trials.

3 It's critical for estimating the fertiliser requirements of many perennial crops, as well as a growing
number of other crops.

4 Plant analysis is necessary for determining the nutritional value of foods as well as the potential for
human and animal toxicity.

ASSESSMENT 2 Part C: Moisture Analysis. (Practical Activity)

1. Record your result:

Samples:

Soil potting mix Moisture (%) Time taken

Garden soil 18.69% 11:10 min.

Green house potting mix 58.09% 40:49 min

 • When compared to green-house potting mix, the moisture content of garden soil is lower,
and the time required is shorter..
 • Through evaporation and plant transpiration, moisture is a critical variable in managing the
exchange of water and heat energy between the land surface and the atmosphere. Chemical
weathering is accelerated by increased soil moisture, which pushes minerals such as bases
further into the soil profile. This has an impact on management methods like as drainage
and mobile nutrient inputs. The development of soil has been substantially influenced by
biotic agents. Every soil has a varied water-holding capability. Green soil is a natural soil
supplement, whereas potting mix soil is for container gardening such as potted houseplants
and window boxes.
