Connector VHX-7000 Series
Demand for connectors has been increasing due to the recent spread of digital and
communication devices. Meanwhile, connector types and applications have also diversified.
This guide introduces technical information related to connectors and observation examples
taken with digital microscopes.

What are connectors?

Connectors are parts that connect wiring for electronic circuits and optical communications. The use of connectors makes
attachment and detachment easier.

Connector benefits
(1) Replacement makes repairs easy.
(2) Easy to upgrade with modularization.
(3) Parts can be easily assembled and productivity can be improved.

Connector Structure
Name Description
Terminals that make electrical contact when the connectors are mated. Knife-fork contacts and bellows contacts
are common.

Knife-fork contact Bellows contact

The name is derived from the fact The contact is formed by
Contact that the structure of the contacts is bending a thin plate. It is highly
similar to a knife and fork. reliable due to surface contact.
Its name is derived from the fact
that the shape of the contact
resembles a bellows.

Terminal for connecting to a printed circuit board. Straight Right angle

Depending on the mounting direction, these terminals
Terminal may be straight or right angle.

Housing An insulator to hold the contact. Also called a shell.

When used between devices, they are also called I/O (input/output) connectors or I/F (interface)
connectors. Circular, square, coaxial, and optical connectors are common.

D-Sub connectors are categorized by shell size and pin count.

D-Sub connector The 9-pin type (DE-9) is used for serial ports, such as RS232C, and the
mini D-Sub 15-pin connector (DE-15) is used to connect analog displays.

These connectors are manufactured according to the German Industrial

DIN connector
Standards (DIN). Circular connectors are the most common.

IEEE 1394 A serial bus standard, but it was not as popular as USB due to patent
connector issues.

lines.

Communication RJ-45 connector This 8P8C (8-pole, 8-core) modular connector is used for LAN connections.

RS-232C Although the official connector is a D-Sub 25-pin connector, a small D-Sub
connector 9-pin connector is mainly used.

SC connector Push-pull type connector. This is the most common connector.

FC connector Screw-type connector. Used in locations where fixed strength is required.
