REMOVING REFITTING GEARBOX AND DIFFERENTIAL Place the vehicle on ramps, remove the front wheels, lift the bonnet and disconnect the battery leads from the battery terminals. 1, Remove the anti-theft control unit, com- plete with mounting, by undoing the nuts indicated, 2. Disconnect the supply connectors from the anti-theft control unit 3. Remove the battery from its cage, undoing the bolt and nuts indicated. 4, Remove the ait hose connecting the flowmeter to the throttle body, undoing the two retaining clips indicated. . Undo the nut and bolts shown by the white arrows located at the top of the air cleaner, and disconnect the connector shown by the black arrow. Raise the vehicle and almost fully undo the nut shown by the white arrow, which secures the left of the bottom crossmem- ber to the body shell in order to facilitate the withdrawal of the air cleaner's plastic pin (A) from its seating (shown by the black arrow) on the body shell mounting. . Move the air cleaner towards the engine and withdraw it from the bottom of the car after opening the clip (B) which links the two air conditioner pipes. Disconnect the Lambda probe electrical supply connectors. Undo the bolts securing the front section of the exhaust pipe to the catalytic con- verter. Remove the front section of the exhaust pipe after undoing the nuts securing its mounting bracket to the oil sump. 3. Undo the two nuts (arrowed) and disen- gage the cable and its sheath from the clutch linkage. 4. Disengage the reaction strut from its bracket, undoing the nut indicated by the black arrow. Release the gear selector cable balljoint shown by the white arrows from its brack- et, and after removing the clip (A) with- draw the cable from its mounting. 5. Remove the left wheelarch from its seat- ing after undoing the bolts securing it to the body shell Remove the left drive shaft by undoing the bolts indicated by the black arrows, which secure it to the differential flange, and dis- engage the left stub axle from its shock absorber after undoing the bolts shown by the white arrows which join the two parts. Position and tie the drive shaft as shown in the figure to facilitate the withdrawal of the gearbox. Remove the right drive shaft and release the right stub axle from its shock absorber. Undo the bolts which secure to the crank- case the mounting of the bearing on the intermediate shaft transmitting motion to the front right wheel. 3. Undo the bolt securing the earth cable on the top of the engine, and in its place fit with two bolts the L-shaped plate (which can be made easily). 4. Fit the engine support _crossbeam 1860851000 longitudinally, inserting the lifting strut in the eyelet of the above- mentioned plate. 5. Undo the bolts (arrowed) which secure the mounting to the gearbox and body shell. Move the engine unit towards the radia- tor, to permit its subsequent removal. Slacken the bolts and nut securing the gearbox bellhousing to the engine. Mount the gearbox mounting bracket eon ES 1860859001 on a hydraulic jack and se- cure it to the gearbox using the bolts indi- cated. Undo the previously slackened bolts and nut securing the bellhousing to the en- gine, then withdraw the gearbox-differen- tial unit by manoeuvring the column jack as appropriate. g Publication no, 506.586
