Major General Jaliya Senarathna of Gajaba Regiment assumed office as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 11 Division on Monday (01) amid religious observances and military formalities at the Headquarters premises in Pallekele, Kundasale. He succeeds Major General Senarath Bandara who has been appointed as the Commander, Security Forces - East. Major General Jaliya Senarathna also planted a sapling in the Headquarters premises and addressed the troops before he joined for an all rank tea. Brigade Commanders of under command Brigades, Commanding Officers of the Battalions, Staff Officers of the Division and Other Ranks attended the event.

The visiting Commander was warmly welcomed by Major General S M S P B Samarakoon RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of 11Infantry Division and also briefed about the deployment of its brigades and battalions during the visit. Afterwards, the Commander visited 3 Sri Lanka Singhe Regiment and 19 Sri Lanka National Guards and the Commanding Officers of the mentioned battalions welcomed and briefed on their role and tasks as the under command formations. In addition, Laxapana Hydro Power Station, Kothmale Dam, Angunuwelpelessa Ammunition Depot and the construction site of the Army hospital in Pallekele were also observed by the Commander SF (Cen) during his visit. Further, the Brigade Commanders, respective Commanding Officers as well as senior officers of Security Forces Headquarters (Central) also joined this visit.

1 Division-Completed Gampola New ICC Formally Inaugurated
11 Division troops of the Security Force HQ - Central with health authorities converted Somerset Tea Factory in Gampola, Kurunduwatta into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) to treat some 300 COVID-19 patients in the event of any increase of infectees. Upon completion, the project was made available to health authorities on 06 June 2021. General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Ranjan Lamahewage, Commander, Security Forces - Central to take prompt action for the conversion of this centre for an ICC within a few days. Hon Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Minister of Agriculture, District Secretary for Kandy, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division, Major General Kithsiri Liyanage, Director Nawalapitiya Hospital and a few health officials participated in the formal handover ceremony. This new ICC is equipped with all medical facilities. The General Officer Commanding - 11 Division formally handed over the ICC to health authorities on the occasion. Commander, 111 Brigade who closely supervised the troops until the completion of the task was also present at the location.
