FINAL PROJECT TASK GUIDE

Open-sourced applications used in accounting.

II. Rationale
MS Office Word and Excel are examples of powerful tools used in various industries that
enhance each user’s productivity. In accounting, several reports are made easy with the use of
these applications. From journal entries to financial statements and payroll for the company, there
are numerous applications that may be done with the use of these tools. But besides these
applications, there are those that are dedicated to executing financial reports in the accounting
industry and some of these applications are open-sourced (free).

IV. Specific Guidelines

Each group will study an open-source accounting application. Each application will be
downloaded and tested by the group via a recorded lecture. Each member will demonstrate the
basic functions of the application using sample data from the group.

The group will provide the benefits of using the selected application and compare it with
other applications that are paid for. Other details like the developers or makers of the application,
download instructions, installation, and compatibility requirements shall also be discussed.

The following will be the output for the final project:

• Recorded video discussing the features of the system with appropriate examples. All
members of the group must be seen discussing.
Filename and format – Group#.mp4/avi/wmv; Example – Group07.wmv

• Report on application details (developers, compatibility requirements, download and

installation instructions, a summary of features, benefits of using the application, and
comparison with two (02) paid applications). Use your own format.

• Peer evaluation report

** note that all documents without proper use of the features mentioned above shall have deductions. **
