Unpacking the New Detector

WARNING
Hazard of contamination caused by a broken detector panel
If a collision causes the detector panel to break, CsI particles contaminated with Thallium may be
emitted to the environment.
In this case, follow the instructions given below:
• Put a dust mask on your face.
• Wear plastic gloves.
• Collect all dropped particles and put them, together with the detector, in a sealed package.
• Clean all surfaces that may be contaminated with the particles.
• Place the used dusters in the same sealed package.
• Clearly identify the package with the following sentence “WARNING: DAMAGED DETECTOR”.
• Send back the package containing the damaged detector, so that the supplier can take appropri-
ate actions to properly recycle the detector.
If you do not obey these instructions, there is a risk of death or serious injury.

• Open the transport box.

NOTICE
To avoid condensation:
Do not open the inner plastic bag before the detector temperature has reached room temperature.
The acclimatization time takes at least 7 hours 30 minutes.
If you do not obey these instructions, there is a risk of property damage.

• Open the sealing bag carefully.


• Remove the detector completely from the seal-
ing bag.
• Make sure that the detector is not damaged.
• Put the detector onto a suitable surface until it is
needed for the installation in the Bucky unit.
• If the detector is damaged, refer to the section
Sending back the old/defective detector stated
below.

Securing the System

WARNING

For BuckyDiagnost VS

WARNING
Hazard of moving counterweight carriage
• Before replacing the digital detector, make
sure that the counterweight carriage is se-
cured with the four safety screws (1)!
If you do not obey these instructions, there
is a risk of death or serious injury.

• Switch on the system.

• Tilt the VS to the 90° position (horizontally).
• Move the counterweight carriage into its parking
position and fixate it with the four safety screws
(1), two on each side of the column.

Removing the Covers

WARNING
Hazard of electrical shock through running system!
• Do not touch live components while the system power is not switched off.
If you do not obey these instructions, there is a risk of death or serious injury.

• Switch off the system.


• Make sure that the system cannot be switched on accidentally.
• Wait until the capacitors are discharged.
• Remove the top cover of the X-ray generator.
• Switch off the X-ray generator at ENF1.

• Loosen the two Allen screws (1).


• Remove the two Allen screws (2) if available. 2
• Remove the cover (3). 1

• Loosen the two nuts on each side of the two


front cover supports (1).
• Remove the two front cover supports.

rear cover.

• Remove the upper screw from the Amplimat


stop.
• Move the angle plate to the right side.

• To get access to the connector VA PH X1, pull


out the 5-field Amplimat chamber (approximately
10 cm).

• Disconnect VA PH X1 (1).
• Remove the 5-field measuring chamber and put 1

it down securely.

• To protect the cables on the right side, pull out


the plastic strip so that all cables on the right
side are covered.

Removing the Old Detector

Important
It is not allowed to dispose of the detector. The old or defective detector must be sent back to the
company.

• Disconnect the following cables:


– VA X1
– VA X2
– VA X11
– VA X15

• To release the detector plate inside the Bucky


unit 3, Pull out the black bolts on the left hand
side and on the right hand side and then turn
them for 90°.
• Pull out the metal plate carefully. It is the base
plate for the detector.

• Pull out the detector (approximately 10 cm).


• Disconnect the following cables from the detec-
tor:
– VA-PX (POF TX-grey)
– VA-PX (earth)

• Remove the detector carefully.


• Position the detector with the smooth side (with-
out screw holes) onto a suitable surface (for ex-
ample, a table covered with a towel). The screw
holes face towards the upper side.

Installing the New Detector


• Position the metal plate (1) at the bottom side of
the detector.
• Tighten the four screws (2, Allen key 4 mm).

• Connect the protective earth conductor VA X15


of the detector plate to the detector (washer, ring
terminal, spring washer, nut).

Position the ring terminals of the protective earth


conductor horizontally (1) on the earth bolt on
the left side of the Bucky unit 3 digital. The ca-
bles face inwards to protect them against dam-
age when inserting the digital detector.

NOTICE
• Be careful not to damage the protective earth conductors on the left side of the Bucky unit 3 digi-
tal while inserting the digital detector.
If you do not obey these instructions, there is a risk of property damage.

• Carefully insert the detector plate with the detec-


tor facing upwards into the Bucky unit 3 digital.
• Push the detector (1) carefully into the Bucky
unit 3 digital until 2/3 of the detector is inside.

• Connect the cables at the detector:

– Earth wire VA P X11 (connection


between Bucky unit and detector plate, left
connector, not in the figure).
– Communication cable (Ethernet cable) VA P
X2 (1) to X (eth).
– Plastic optical fiber VA P B1 (2) to X
(TXgrey).
• Attach the POF cable with a cable tie to the
Ethernet cable (10 cm between plug and cable
for the Ethernet cable, 13 cm between plug and
cable for the POF cable). That way, a correct
strain relief is guaranteed. Fig. 66

Installing the Amplimat Chamber

NOTICE
• Make sure that the wires are located under the housing of the 5–field measuring chamber.
If you do not obey these instructions, there is a risk of property damage.

• Insert the 5-field measuring chamber carefully.


• Connect VA PH X1 (1).
• Install the metal clamps (2, 3). 1

• Push the 5-field measuring chamber fully into


the Bucky unit 3 digital.

• Reinstall the Amplimat stop.


• Attach the Amplimat cable in the plastic clamp
on the detector plate.

• Push the detector completely into the Bucky unit


3 digital until the two levers snap in. It might be
possible to pull and turn the levers to let them
snap.

Installing the Covers

• Make sure that the cables behind the rear cover do not obstruct the movement of the grid frame.

• Push the plastic strip for cable protection into its parking position.
• Connect the cables:
– X2
– X2out
– X5
– X8

For DigitalDiagnost TH (BU3) 1

• Connect the earth wire SA X12 (1).

• Install the rear cover (2) of the Bucky unit 3 digi-
tal
(two screws).

Repackaging the Old Detector

WARNING

• Insert the detector into the new, unused sealing


bag.
• Insert the humidity protector and the humidity in-
dicator into the sealing bag.
• Push the detector completely into the sealing
bag.

Testing Detector Test (Pixium 4343RC)

• Complete the detector exchange report.


• Store the data/pictures on the CD.
• Insert the packed detector, the completed detec-
tor exchange report and the CD into the trans-
port box.
