Introduction to E-commerce
E-commerce or the electronic
commerce is the activity of
electronically buying or selling of
products on online services or over
the Internet.E-commerce draws on
technologies such as mobile
commerce, electronic funds
transfer, supply chain management,
Internet marketing, online
transaction processing, electronic
data interchange (EDI), inventory
management systems, and
automated data collection systems.
7 E-commerce is in turn driven by the
technological advances of the
semiconductor industry, and is the
largest sector of the electronics
industry.
Objectives of E-commerce:-

E-commerce is evolving into digital

commerce that implies to the entire
business journey from buying to
delivery with an online experience.
Below are the few objectives of
ecommerce:

1. Reduce management costs

Businesses aim at reducing the costs
incurred for the betterment of their
revenue. Automating the
ecommerce business can help in
reducing the management cost
significantly. Moreover, the right
use of digital marketing can help in
reducing the cost spent on driving
8 customers to such an extent that
businesses can bring customers for
free of cost.
2. Developing business relations
With ecommerce as the primary use,
business development can be easily
achieved. The direct communication
between a company and the customer,
the business relationship can be
boosted.
3. Providing a unique customer
experience
Uncountable ecommerce businesses
are functioning out there in the
market. When a customer searches
for a certain product (for instance,
shampoo), they will probably click on
the first three links that are shown on
the Google Search Engine Results
Page. All the rest links are either
avoided, never seen, or are visited by a
9 few. This itself shows the competition
in the ecommerce market.
5. Boosting the efficiency of
services
With the continually evolving
technology, you need to enhance the
efficiency of your services. By
choosing an online ecommerce
platform to create an online store,
you can efficiently reduce the cost of
managing and selling online. You
have various opportunities to boost
the efficiency of your service that
eventually enhances the revenue
earned. By reducing the delivery
time, you can witness happy
customers getting back to your
business two times faster. Another
way is to provide your customers
with automated services such as
status update, invoice creating, chat
support, etc. When you update your
efficiency of delivering products or
10 services to your customers, you are
creating a strong online presence
that helps you sell more.
6. Developing relevant target
Developing relevant traffic for an
ecommerce business is a common
objective. Whether an ecommerce
website or an online store, building
traffic is one of the most important
objectives. However, you should know
that not all traffic is useful for your
business. If you are successfully creating
traffic for your ecommerce site or store,
but most of the people in the traffic do
not require the products or services you
provide, the traffic is not causing any
good to your business. For instance, your
marketing strategies were attractive
enough for teenagers; your business
would not be receiving any boost in
sales. Therefore, along with boosting
your traffic, you need to analyze your
traffic. Here comes the need for

11 collecting customer data. Collecting

customer data include demographics
such as age, location, and gender,
customer interests, browsing history,
browser history, and so on.
Importance of e-commerce:-

In the emerging global economy,

eCommerce has increasingly
become a vital component of
business strategy and a solid
catalyst for economic
development.From startups to
small and medium-sized businesses
right through to huge brands, there
are a large number of companies
that can benefit from their own
online store, where they can sell
their own products/services.

At the same time, the speedy influx

of new technology in the retail
experience has driven consumers of
all ages to expect a convenient and

12 connected experience seamlessly

aligns with their everyday lives.
Here are some of the importances
of E-commerce
1. eCommerce Helps You Reduce Your Costs
To have an online store it is not necessary that
you have all your products presented in a
physical space. In fact, there are different
companies that operate online where they only
show all their inventory through their
electronic commerce.
This implies not only saving by not needing a
rental or purchase of premises, but also
everything that involves electricity, the
Internet, etc. In each case, you will be
reducing your costs.

2. eCommerce Helps Businesses Go Global

Directly related to the previous point, this fact
allows you to put your products for sale
anywhere in the world. They will not have the
explicit need to travel to where you are to see
what you have to offer.
If you are running a physical store, it will be
limited by the geographical area that you can

13 service, but owning an eCommerce website will

give you the opportunity to increase your
outreach. It’ll offer your products & services to
customers around the whole world, regardless
of the distance and time zone.
4. eCommerce Can Broaden Your Brand &
Expand Your Business
Having an eCommerce store can be used to
broaden your range of products/services
for sale, expanding your business, bringing
you more custom, and diversifying your
sales. It’s the ideal way to take your brand
from a traditional brick & mortar store to
an innovative, well-loved one.
With eCommerce, there is no need to have
more than one branch, just one singular
online store allowing you to fully reach
customers without having to worry about
moving locations, you can just manage
your online business from home.

5. eCommerce Offers Better Marketing

Opportunities
Your eCommerce site is the best marketing
tool that you would ever have. Thanks to
the internet, now anyone can market

14 through online tools like social media

marketing, email marketing, search engine
marketing, pay per click ads, and SEO help
you build very useful links and contacts
Review of Literature
The term e-commerce was coined back in
the 1960s, with the rise of electronic
commerce the buying and selling of goods
through the transmission of data – which
was made possible by the introduction of
the electronic data
interchange.introduction of early
technology like Electronic Data
Interchange (EDI) and teleshopping in
the 1970s paved the way for the modern-
day ecommerce store as we know it today.
The history of ecommerce is closely
intertwined with the history of the
internet. Online shopping became possible
when the internet was opened to the
public in 1991. Amazon was one of the first
ecommerce sites in the US to start selling
products online and thousands of
businesses have followed since.
The convenience, safety, and enjoyable
user experience of ecommerce have
15 improved exponentially since the
inception of online shopping. In his
article, we will discuss some of the key
players and milestones of ecommerce.
Research Methodology
Types of E-commerce:-

Electronic commerce can be

arranged into four primary classes.
The reason for this basic grouping is
the gatherings that are associated
with the exchanges. So the four
fundamental electronic commerce
models are as per the following :-
1. Business to Business
This is Business to Business
exchanges. Here the organizations
are working with one another. The
last purchaser isn’t included. So the
online exchanges just include the
producers, wholesalers, retailers
and so forth.
2. Business to Consumer
Business to Consumer. Here the
16 organization will sell its
merchandise as well as
administrations straightforwardly
to the buyer.
The buyer can peruse their sites and see
items, pictures, read audits. At that
point, they put in their request and the
organization sends the products
straightforwardly to them. Prevalent
models are Amazon, Flipkart, Jabong
and so forth.
3. Buyer to Consumer
Buyer to the purchaser, where the
buyers are in direct contact with one
another. No organization is included. It
assists individuals with selling their own
merchandise and resources
straightforwardly to an invested
individual. As a rule, products
exchanged are vehicles, bicycles,
gadgets and so on. OLX, Quikr and so
forth pursue this model.
4. Customer to Business
This is the turnaround of B2C, it is a
customer to business. So the purchaser
gives a decent or some support of the
17 organization. State, for instance, an IT
consultant who demos and offers his
product to an organization. This would
be a C2B exchange.
Technologies of e-commerce
There is rarely a facet within an
industry that hasn’t been touched by
technology. The retail industry is no
exception when it comes to taking
advantage of technology. In fact,
successful businesses are setting the
bar by implementing technologies
such as artificial intelligence (AI),
chatbots, and voice assistants into
their operations. The reasons vary,
but can include that these
technologies help provide excellent
customer experiences through instant
communication, providing support
without the help of live employees,
data management and security, and
much more
Artificial intelligence (AI):-

18 AI is revealing valuable insights into

customer preferences — which can
guide marketing campaigns.
It also can provide for the
automation and transfer of data
management operations to increase
performance. In the retail and e-
commerce world, AI is being relied
upon for several unique aspects of
business.AI, big data, and machine
learning can offer analytics and
foresight into customer behavior
patterns which can drive
advertising campaigns, provide
support and services, and automate
communication — all of which
increase engagement rates for
businesses.
2.Recommendations to customers:-
Since AI can predict customer
behavior patterns, it is able to
recommend relevant and useful

19 information to customers on
products and services and more. AI
and machine learning algorithms
can efficiently forecast this
information
taking in a customer’s search
history and other third-party data.
This can lead to effectively
proposing applicable information
and solutions to satisfy customer
needs.
The Cloud:-
You will be hard-pressed to find a
successful business that does not
have at least one aspect of their
business operations posted on the
cloud. Managing and processing
data in the cloud is essential for
the instant access of data by
anyone who needs it, on any
device. Especially for e-commerce
businesses, a cloud ERP can
improve delivery speeds, make
20 your store more adaptable, and
bring about business stability and
growth.
Chatbots:-
Recognized for their customer
satisfaction rates and wide-scale
availability, chatbots have pivoted
from limited use in call centers to
wide-spread e-commerce website
applications. Rather than asking
questions and providing
information to those over the
phone, e-commerce websites that
utilize chatbots can provide a
variety of services and solutions.

1.24/7 assistance:-
Many businesses cannot provide
answers exactly when a potential
customer is searching for
them.Additionally, customers may
be frustrated when put on hold
21 because a business does not have
the staff to answer and tend to a
high volume of customers.
Chatbots are available 24/7, day
and night, to provide any answers
and solutions a potential customer
may inquire about.
2.Respond to queries:-
Built into a chatbot’s algorithm is
what is called a decision tree.
Decision trees use machine and
deep learning to automate complex
business processes, essentially
developing, maintaining, and
always expanding upon a
comprehensive network of if/then
statements.
By addressing commonly asked
questions and concerns from

22 customers, chatbots are able to

expand upon their decision tree.
Here, a chatbot can gain
information on whether they’ve
helped a customer or not.
3.Send shipping and tracking
information :-
Imagine if Amazon never remembered
your address or payment information
and never told you when your order is
scheduled to arrive. It is a pain for
customers to have to enter shipping
information every time they want to
order something from your e-
commerce website. Additionally, it is a
best practice for user experience to
give a customer a timeframe for when
the order will be at their
doorstep.Chatbots remember this
information and can provide real-time
shipping tracking details for
customers.This can also help
warehouse operations, as they could
focus on the supply chain and fulfilling
orders through their order
management system rather than
23 telling customers where their
packages are.
Voice assistants:-
Not everyone searches for
products and information via
mouse and keyboard in the digital
age. To accommodate these
potential customers, businesses
will need to adopt voice
commerce — using voice
recognition technology and
allowing customers to use voice
commands to find and purchase
products online. Voice assistants
such as Siri, the Amazon Echo,
and Google Home are becoming
increasingly popular for their
convenience in searching for and
purchasing products. In order to

24 stay successful, e-commerce

businesses will need to provide
this technology and its benefits to
capture a new wave of
consumers.
Mechanism of an E-
commerce business
Online business works pretty much on
the same principles as an offline/retail
store does. On a broader scale, the
whole eCommerce process can be
broken down into three main
components or work processes:
1.Receiving Orders:-
This is the first step where customers
place the order through the eCommerce
platform (website or an online portal),
and the seller makes a note of it.
2.Processing Order Information:-
The second step where all the details of
the order are processed and completed.
It is now ready for delivery.
3.Shipping:-
The last step wherein the delivery
process is carried out. All the logistics
25 components play a significant role in
this step to ensure timely delivery to the
customer.
Data Analysis,
Interpretation and
Results
Data Analysis definition:-
Data Analysis is the process of
systematically applying statistical and/or
logical techniques to describe and
illustrate, condense and recap, and
evaluate data. According to Shamoo and
Resnik (2003) various analytic procedures
“provide a way of drawing inductive
inferences from data and distinguishing
the signal (the phenomenon of interest)
from the noise (statistical fluctuations)
present in the data”.
Data Analysis on User Experience
percentage:-
74% of businesses believe that user
experience is important for improving
sales and conversions. AI provides a

26 personalized user experience that 59% of

customers say influences their shopping
decisions. Artificial intelligence can
facilitate a shopping experience that is
supported by customers’ personal
preferences
Data Analysis of E-commerce
Markets in India
India has a huge population and with
increase in the internet users, the e-
business expansion becomes easy.
The scope of ecommerce in India is
really good for a long time online

joining the marketplaces like Amazon
and Flipkart in order to get more

their own or else list the items on
other e-commerce websites to
reach the vast audience.

Nowadays, businesses have to

operate offline and online.
Online visibility of products can
generate sales as per listing

good choice when it comes to
affiliating with some influencers
in the business niche
category.Social media platforms
like Facebook and Instagram

the market for increase in sales
of products and services.

see different approaches also when
targeting more number of customers.
2. Different Ecommerce Marketplaces

Amazon, Paytm, Snapdeal, Shopclues,
Flipkart, etc. have their own policies to
operate in the market. By agreeing
with their terms and conditions, Sellers
can list the items in almost every
category they are interested in.
Creating more listings in the inventory
also makes it possible to get good sales

29
on the ecommerce platform. This is one
of the best opportunities sellers will get
to showcase their products to large
audiences.
Amazon has operations in many
countries, making it easy for the
customers to shop from anywhere in
the world. By analyzing the shopping
experience, this has made clear
thoughts on the scope of ecommerce
success ratio. Amazon believes in pure
customer satisfaction and customer
service. Amazon marketplace has
clear transparency about the products
and the deals that are offered to the
customers.
The future of ecommerce in india is
really going to have big growth
potential in all the categories of items
The user experience is very good in all
e-commerce websites if they continue
to provide best customer support in
the customer’s online shopping
journey.

30 3. Offers and Discounts

Offers and discounts are also one of
the reasons for soar in ecommerce
industry.
People look for huge discounts and
special promo codes when they
want to shop online. As a result,
they visit numerous ecommerce
sites to get the best deal for them.
Online sellers can promote their
products on instagram and
facebook with coupon codes and
target the audience to generate the
additional sales.

Big Brand E-commerce platforms

periodically send emails to all their
subscribers to let them be notified
about the latest deals and upcoming
offers. This task is very necessary for
getting more and more customers
to the deal pages. The future of
31 ecommerce will experience more
advancement in gathering
customers.
Data Analysis of Legal
aspects in E-commerce
The online entrepreneur must have a
panoramic perspective over the legal
framework and detailed look over the
traditional and specific legal issues of
internet law. The creation of a website
is neither the beginning nor the end of
the chain of questions for
consideration and resolving. The
website is only the shop window of the
business.
Here are some of the legal aspects of
the e-commerce a company should
know before starting it's business in e-
commerce.
1. Domain name:-
The choice of domain name in the e–
commerce is difficult process

32
requiring assessment of many factors.
Except the considerations for
association a domain with the name of
a brand
and the meaning of the domain in
the process of the website
optimization, there are also legal
aspects whose neglecting or
ignorance can have serious
consequences in the future.
The chosen name must not be
similar or like to the name of
registered trademarks, especially
of well-known trademarks.
Registering a domain that is close
or similar to the name brand is
considered an offense known as
"cybersquating". In the Internet
there are different databases,
where domains can be checked for
a similarity with registered
trademarks.On the website of the
World Intellectual Property
33 Organization can be found a public
database facilitating searching into
registered trademarks here
2. Website:-
The well optimized and functional website with
friendly user interface plays a key role for the
success of the e–commerce. The contract for its
creation should cover a wide range of legal issues.
Firstly, the contract or the enclosed Terms of
reference should set out clearly, in details, the
company’s requirements regarding the website -
functional and performance requirements and in
terms of whole visible content ( video, images, music
or text referred as components of design). Other
important issues in the contract are clauses for tests
and warranty period for debugging, assigning rights
and responsibility for the actions of subcontractors
(if any) provisions for disclosure of confidential
information made known to the contractor in
connection with the creation of the website, clauses
for warranties and liability for failure, and others
depending on the specifics of the contract.
3. Rights of Intellectual Property :-
By creating an e-commerce website emerged a new
object of intellectual property and all copyrights and
related rights with regard to their use in the website
must be clearly stipulated in the contract. The owner

34
of the website should receive right to use the website
without restriction in time and scope, to make
changes in it, the right to update and improve
website without limitations, depending of the
changing business needs and conditions.
Discussion and conclusion
Discussion:-
Advantages of E-commerce
1.Ecommerce gives the dealers a worldwide
reach. They evacuate the hindrance of the spot
(topography). Presently vendors and purchasers
can meet in the virtual world, without
obstruction of the area.
2.Electronic commerce will considerably bring
down the exchange cost. It takes out many fixed
expenses of keeping up physical shops. This
enables the organizations to appreciate a lot of
higher edge of benefit. It furnishes fast
conveyance of merchandise with next to no
exertion on part of the client. Client grievances
are additionally tended to rapidly. It likewise
spares time, vitality and exertion for both the
purchasers and the organization.
4.One other extraordinary advantage is the
comfort it offers. A client can shop 24×7. The site
is practiced consistently, it doesn’t have working
hours like a shop.
5.Electronic commerce additionally enables the

35
client and the business to be in contact with
straightforwardly, with no mediators. This takes
into consideration fast correspondence and
exchanges. It additionally gives an important
individual touch.
Disadvantages of e-commerce
1.The start-up expenses of the
ecommerce gateway are extremely
high. The arrangement of the
equipment and the product, the
preparation cost of representatives,
the consistent support and upkeep are
on the whole very costly.
2.In spite of the fact that it might
appear to be a slam dunk, the
ecommerce industry has a high danger
of disappointment. Numerous
organizations riding the website wave
of the 2000s have bombed wretchedly.
The high danger of disappointment
stays even today.
4.Security is another zone of concern.
Recently, we have seen numerous
security breaks where the data of the
clients were taken. Charge card

36 robbery, wholesale fraud and so on

stay huge worries with the clients.
Conclusion of E-commerce
E-commerce still represents one of the
business methods that take advantage if done
the right way, even if the stock market and
commodities fell, but E-Commerce will still
be able to survive and receive high
transaction. E-commerce has a tremendous
opportunity of business in Malaysia. In
addition, it is also to introducing new
techniques and styles in a transaction. Using
the extensive E-Commerce in the Internet
world is actually much better to bring the
goodness of the individual or the state.E-
Commerce has undeniably become an
important part of our society. The successful
companies of the future will be those that
take E-Commerce seriously, dedicating
sufficient resources to its development. E-
Commerce is not an IT issue but a whole
business undertaking. Companies that use it
as a reason for completely re-designing their
business processes are likely to reap the
greatest benefits. Moreover, E-Commerce is
37 a helpful technology that gives the consumer
access to business and companies all over the
world.
