Installation time
The installation time is approx. 10.0 hours. If the video switch retrofit kit has already been installed, the installation
time will be reduced by approx. 1.0 hours. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and the
equipment in it.
The specified installation time does not include time required for programming/coding.
The charge for the total costs for the programming time is to be taken into account in when calculating the retrofit
costs (settlement must not be made via warranty).

Important information
These installation instructions are primarily designed for use within the BMW dealership organisation and by
authorised BMW service companies.
In any event, the target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with
the appropriate specialist knowledge.
All work must be completed using the latest BMW repair manuals, circuit diagrams, servicing manuals and work
instructions in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety
regulations.
If you experience installation or function problems, limit troubleshooting to approx. 0.5 hours for
mechanical or 1.0 hour for electrical work.
In order to reduce costs and avoid any additional expense, send a query immediately to the Technical Parts Support
via the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP).
Specify the following information:
- Chassis number
- Part number of the retrofit kit
- A precise description of the problem
- Work steps already carried out

Installation information
When routing fibre optic cables, make sure the bending radius is no less than 25 mm.
Refer to the instructions for handling fibre optic cables according to ISTA-No. 61 00 ...
Ensure that the cables and/or lines are not kinked or damaged as you install them in the car. The costs thereby
incurred will not be reimbursed by BMW AG.
Additional cables/lines that you install must be secured with cable ties.
If the specified PIN chambers are occupied, bridges, double crimps must be applied or twin-lead terminals must be
used.
All pictures show LHD cars; proceed accordingly on RHD cars.
After the installation work, the retrofit must be programmed / coded via the Retrofits path.
The video switch retrofit kit only needs to be installed in cars with SA 696 6 disc DVD changer (MMC) if no video
switch has already been installed.

Ordering instructions
The monitors D, monitor trims F, upper G and lower H seat back panel, the player N, the remote control U and the
batteries V are not included in the retrofit kit and must be ordered separately (see EPC for part numbers and
details).
For cars built after 9/09 the power supply wiring harness (auxiliary cable AP, auxiliary cable BA and the 10 A fuse
BB) must be ordered separately (see EPC for part numbers and details).
For cars with TV module, the TV module T and the aerial amplifier S must be ordered separately (see EPC for part
numbers and details).
If the video switch retrofit kit is installed, the video switch AA must be ordered separately (see EPC for part number
and and further details).

Place video switch AA on holder AO and screw it on

Cars built up to 09/09 only

Fuses can fall out when connectors are plugged into
the power distribution box, rear right (1). Ensure that
all fuses are replaced in their correct position.
Route branch AB7 to the power distribution box,
rear right (1).
Z2*10B Insert branch AB7, RT/SW cable, in PIN 9 of
connector Z2*10B, GN 15-pin socket casing.
AB7 Connect plug Z2*10B to the power distribution,
1 rear right (1).

Disconnect the following cables (1) from plug A42*1B
and connect them to socket casing AD:
- BL cable from PIN 21 to PIN 1
- WS cable from PIN 24 to PIN 2
- Shield from PIN 23 to PIN 3

AC4 Connect branch AC4 to socket casing AD.

AC Lay the MMC adapter cable AC to the video switch.

- Branch AF1, RT cable, to PIN 1
- Branch AF2, WS cable, to PIN 19

of the luggage compartment and continue branch A17
to the power distribution box rear right (1).
Fuses can fall out when connectors are plugged into
the power distribution box (1). Ensure that all fuses
are replaced in their correct position.
Insert branch A17, RT/BL cable, in PIN 7 of
A17 connector Z2*7B, NT 10+5-pin socket casing.

The retrofit system requires coding.

- Connect the battery
- Encode/program the retrofit with ISSS (integrated software service station) via the Retrofits path
- Conduct a brief test
- Function test
- Re-fit the car components as required
