In A Grove by

Ryunosuke Akutagawa

“In a Grove” by Ryunosuke Akutagawa is a crime story trying to find the murderer of Takehiro whose
body was found dead in a bamboo forest in Japan, and a various statements coming from the different
character that both clarifies and confuses the reader.

Woodcutter who actually found the dead body of Takehiro in the forest. The Buddhist Priest anyone
who see the couple before the crime committed and according to him that a couple was hiding towards
Yamashina. The Police officers who saw Tajomaru who was thrown by the horse that he was riding and
according to him that Tajomaru possessed all the missing belongings of the dead Samurai. And
therefore he actually concluded that it was Tajumaro who committed the crime of murdering and raping
the women which is the wife. The Old women Masago’s mother who give her testimony too and who
kept on depending her daughter because she didn’t want to have the society say about something bad
against her.

The story was all about a crime trying to find a murderer who killed Takehiro who found dead in a
bamboo forest in Japan. And talks about the different characters who was being involved to the crime
that being happened. I think the story was a sad since it was a tragic, and it also makes me confused
because of the various testimonies given by different characters.

The favorite part of the story that makes me excite is that when the different characters give their
testimonies to the high police commissioner seeking for an answers about the crime happened. This
part of the story also makes me confuse about who really is saying the truth.

I enjoyed reading the story and while reading it I feel a little bit excitement about who really committed
the crime. And I've learned that each of us has a different point of view on how we perceive things.but
truth plays an important role not only for ourselves, but also for our society, because it can help
individuals form positive relationships.
