TIGERS, TIGERS, TIGRESES!!! To steal a quote from Roy & HG: When too much football is never enough!...all three grades of the Canowindra Tigers Rugby League Football Club are into the Woodbridge Cup Grand Final this Saturday at Cargo. This is an amazing feat for the club and congratulations must go to the three coaches involved. It all starts at the top, with head coach Garry Whatman, Youth League Coach Paul Earsman and League Tag Coach Mick Vitnell. Garry Whatman capped his tremendous season being named 2011 Woodbridge Cup Coach of the year. The First Grade side went through to the Grand Final last week with a convincing 20-12 victory over Peak Hill. They take on the Cargo Blue Heelers who defeated Peak Hill in an extra time preliminary final to get through to the Grand Final. The Tigers and the Blue Heelers now have the opportunity of a lifetime having the game called by Ray Hadley and the 2GB Continuous Call Team. 1st Grade Preview: Canowindra Tigers V Cargo Blue Heelers. The young talented Tigers with an average age of just 21, take on the experienced Blue Heelers team that have been at the top of the Woodbridge Cup tree for some time. The Cargo team have the ability to score enough points in a twenty minute period to win the game. Local lad Mat Watson will be the utmost importance to their side, he has a great running game and feeds his backline well. Up front Mat Taylor has almost singlehandedly taken his side to the Grand final with two big performances during the last two weeks. The key to the Blue Heelers chances though may rest with livewire hooker Adam Clunes. He is traditionally Cargos best during the biggest games of the year. Canowindras chances lay with the fact they dont give up and theyll play for 80 minutes, what they miss in experience they make up for with unbridled enthusiasm for the game and their mates. The two youngsters from Auckland Peter Pita and Willie Lafolafo must make yards to give the talented backline an opportunity to show their wares. Local lad Mat Kelly needs to touch the ball plenty of times, but a lot will fall on the shoulders of Nick Whatman, he needs to continue to be creative, but also work hard in defence. Woodbridge Cup Youth League: Canowindra defeated Condobolin Rams 44-12 in front of the biggest crowd to attend a Woodbridge Cup Semi Final. Canowindra didnt once look like faltering and ran out convincing winners. The Tigers now face minor premiers Peak Hill Roosters in the Grand Final. Youth League Preview: Canowindra Tigers V Peak Hill Roosters. The Peak Hill players in this age group are a very talented bunch, they have big forwards who can offload and halves that are creative. Beau Tanswell will lead them around the park and theyll look to Ricky Read to spearhead their attack. Canowindras chances of winning this game are ensuring they attack as a team, they defend as a team, and they work as a team. They need all twenty players to perform on the day and they are very capable of winning this match. Brydon Hughes will lead by example and Tommy Roth has that little extra that can produce points and win the match. League Tag: The League tag girls defeated Cargo Blue Heelers in a very entertaining preliminary final 6-4. They now take on the Eugowra Geagles in the Grand Final. Continued page 3

Graham and Jan of Toms Waterhole Winery and Balloon Joy Flights are proud of all 3 teams and wish you the best run in the finals.
Congratulations to all three grades making it into the Grand Final and good luck!

BOOKS ARE GREAT! Canowindra Preschool kids celebrated Book Week with dressing up as their favourite book character. It was a chance for the children to express themselves and their love off literacy too. The Preschool would like to thank Peter Watt, Amara Flannery, Julie-anne Wagstaff, Brian Stephenson & Sheryl Selwood for joining us to read to the children over the week. These people were the special guest readers of our 2011 shortlist books. Literacy is something that should be introduced to children from birth and only takes 10 minutes a day! A reminder to everyone that we have a great local library and bookshop so take the time to visit these venues and keep on reading!

TIGERS, TIGERS, TIGRESSES!!! League Tag Preview: Canowindra V Eugowra Eugowra flew under the radar this season; they must go into this match as favourites. Theyve defeated Canowindra twice throughout the year. The Eugowra team play a very compressed defence that opposing sides struggle with. Coach Courtney Tildsley and Sarah Welsh are very good League Tag players and will be a real threat. Canowindra have the 2011 League Tag Player of the Year Jess Dzerigas in their team though they cant just rely on her, to win they will be looking to string more passes together to get players like Tara Grant and Maddie Vitnell involved through out the game.

CHARLIES ANGELS ARDUOUS ADVENTURE If you see some frazzled females walking slowly and gently around town, chances are they could be Lorrae Barker, Julie Middleton, Sue Johnson, Bron Newman or Louise Clulow, AKA Charlies Angels. These amazing Angels walked 100kms through unforgiving bushland from Brooklyn on the Hawkesbury to Mosman Harbour. The term walk is used loosely, as some of the terrain saw the girls climb using toe holds, pitons and rope ladders to get up rock faces, and take direction from stewards for which rock to step on for creek crossings...and most of this was done at night, in deep fog conditions. One of 550 teams of four people, of which 400 people retired early, Charlies Angels completed this gruelling challenge and achieved their personal goals to finish. Teams had a staggered start commencing 7am, 8am, 9am and the Angels started at 10am Friday 26 August, finishing at Georges Heights Oval in Mosman at 8:51pm on Saturday. After weeks of focussed training and mentally preparing themselves, the Angels were mentally at the difficulty and at times dangerousness of the course. It was a determined effort, and motivated by the fact that so many generous local people had sponsored them, that kept them going. The rules determined that all the walkers must complete the course within 48 hours (with no sleep), and these chicks had nominated 32 hours, they came so close, but it was the fact that ALL of them finished, without incident, that is the major achievement. Julie Middleton, who has caught up on her sleep, summed up the experience, We will always treasure the experience: the feeling of absolute achievement, after such torturous physical and mental exertion, was incredible; but not something we want to do again. The girls would like to thank the BEST support team EVER: Matt Barker and Will Johnson (who showed the envious city blokes what country people call support!); and all the kind people who sponsored and motivated them.
