essence of the royal hospitality of Rajasthan. The train starts its weeklong lavish voyage from New Delhi, the capital of India, every Wednesday. After a day tour of Delhi, the train moves its wheels towards Rajasthan at night. The Palace on Wheels has been rated as one of the ten best luxurious train journeys in the world. The Palace On Wheels started as a unique holiday train hauled by a steam engine with its inaugural trip on 26th January 1982. It started to roll on its regular operations from October 1982. The eight days and seven nights journey in royal splendor takes you to the territory Maharajas, the 'Pink City' of Jaipur; Jaisalmer 'the jewel of the desert'; the majestic stronghold of Jodhpur; Sawai Madhopur for the Ranthambor National Park; the city of Chittaurgarh with its countless tales of Rajput chivalry; Udaipur with its lakes and Lake Palaces; Bharatpur - with its remarkable Keoladeo Ghana bird sanctuary; the red stone city of Fatehpur Sikri; and of course, the Taj Mahal in Agra - one of the seven wonders of the world. Palace on Wheels train has 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe coaches, each a combination of 4 twin bedded chambers.. each one of them is named after former Rajput states. The names of coaches are romantic and colorful.The coaches boast of facilities provided in five star hotels to
make your voyage comfortable . Lets have a look at each coach individually. The other coach in Palace on Wheel train is called Bharatpur and is adorned with an interesting color scheme reminding one of the colorful forests of Bharatpur. The next coach is named Bikaner. Along with royal state crest, scenes of Dhola Maru are depicted in relief work and oil paintings. Then you will enter a coach named Bundi. The walls are adorned with framed and mounted art pieces of the Bundi School of Painting. The Dholpur Coach has rails made up of teak ply and the royal crest is worked up in gorgeous Zardozi. The Dungagarh Coach has a ceiling decorated by relief and mirror work with some tribal art. Jaipur Coach is mesmerizing as walls and ceilings are decorated with miniature paintings of the famous Jaipur style of painting and frescos. Other beautiful, enchanting yet comfortable coaches are, Jhalawar, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Kota, Sirohi, and Udaipur.
