1. LOADING DOSE-4G OF 20%MGSO4- IV
1g---2mls 4g….?? 4g----8mls To get 20%, 8mls+12mls of water for injection To get 20mls, equivalent to 4g of 20%mgso4 Give slowly over 5mins 2. MAINTAINANCE DOSE- IM 10g of 50%mgso4, divide into two syringes each with 10mls 5g-equivalent to 10mls 10mls of 50%mgso4, dilute 1 ml of 2%lignocaine Administer intramusculary in alternate buttock Continue with maintainance dose 4hourly, for 24 hrs Until delivery or last fit/convulsion Which ever comes last
If convulsions occur within 15mins
Give half of iv loading dose
Stop MGSO4 if
Patter reflex is absent
Urine output is less than 100mls for hr
Respiratory rate less than 12
If magnesium sulphate toxicity occur- give calcium gluconate 1g equivalent to
