The Titanic sank on April 15, 1912 after hitting an iceberg on April 14th. Over 1,500 people died when the "unsinkable" ship went down in the North Atlantic Ocean just days into its voyage from Southampton, England to New York City. Survivors recall a traumatic night as passengers from third class were locked below deck while women and children from first class were evacuated onto lifeboats. Some conspiracy theories suggest the Titanic was intentionally sunk for the insurance money, as its sister ship RMS Olympic was swapped for the voyage.
