Organized by the Indonesian Society of Andrological Urology

in collaboration with the Global Andrology Forum

Virtual Meeting on Friday, November 18th 2022

Event announcement as per October 20th 2022
Dear Colleagues,
We are thrilled to announce that Global Andrology Forum in
collaboration with the Indonesian Society of Andrological Urology has
planned an innovative scientific symposium entitled Global Andrology
Urology Meeting with a main theme of Andrology Conclave for
Urologists and Reproductive Clinicians.
Our vision for this Webinar:
To this date, semen analysis remains the cornerstone of male infertility
evaluation. Over the past 40 years, the World Health Organization
(WHO) Infertility Task Force has attempted to standardize the
methodology of semen examination, introduced thresholds for the
assessment of semen parameters, and has successfully released 5
editions of andrology laboratory manuals for human semen analysis that
are adopted by laboratories worldwide.
In 2021, the WHO published the 6th edition of the “Manual for the
Examination and Processing of Human Semen”. Essentially, the new
manual comprises three parts: semen examination; sperm preparation
and cryopreservation; and quality control/assurance. The procedures for
semen examination (analysis) include basic (routine) examinations,
extended examinations (which may be used by laboratories or clinicians
in certain situations), and advanced tests (which are not currently
recommended for routine use and are primarily for research purposes).
The sections on extended and advanced examinations have been
written in concert with current clinical practice, with many older tests
being abandoned and new tests being adopted.
The 6th Edition represents a significant advancement and differentiation
from the previous five editions, especially concerning basic semen
analysis.

1
In this edition, the semen analysis should be used to aid in:
❖ the diagnosis of male reproductive disorders,
❖ identify lines of investigation,
❖ choose appropriate initial and follow-up therapy, and
❖ select appropriate Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)
procedures, if needed.
However, this new edition has dropped reference values for the tested
parameters. This move leaves the clinician confused about how to
interpret the test result and what action to take. Thus, the objective of
our virtual symposium is to help resolve this uncertainty about
interpretation of test and its significance so that the laboratory personnel
and clinicians can correctly utilize the WHO 6th edition.
These major changes have caused a level of uncertainty in clinicians
and embryologists about how to optimally utilize this universal Guide
towards adequate patient care, bearing in mind the burden that male
fertility assessment carries in clinical decisions as well as the potential
health and socioeconomic impact it has on the patients, both male and
female. Hence, we have designed this symposium for a detailed
presentation of all aspects of the new 6th Edition of the WHO manual,
discussing all its changes and analyzing both their advantages and
limitations in fulfilling the multiple objectives of semen testing as
proposed in the new manual. Our webinar is intended to educate and
guide the clinical audience on the interpretation of the new WHO
manual. Our webinar will help unlock the “technical secrets” of the Sixth
edition so that this guide can be used optimally by the clinicians and
ART practitioners from around the world.
This symposium will include 81 experts. The following is the breakdown:
6 speakers, 5 moderators, 10 co-moderators, 60 expert panelist. From
these experts, they will be grouped on 5 teams which consist of 1
moderator, 2 co-moderators, and 12 expert panelist.

2
In this GAF invented format, each speaker will be provided 10 minutes
duration for the presentation. After all the 6 lectures, each group’s
moderator will invite all expert panelist and co-moderators, one by
one to comment or to ask a question on some small aspect of the talk.
At the same time, the co-moderators will address the best questions
from the audience. After all panelist for each group have spoken, the
speaker will give their response. At the end, the moderator
summarizes the key messages of the talk and presents the next
moderator to take over. With this format we plan to engage a large
number of GAF members to share their clinical and research
expertise with all of us.
The webinar is scheduled on Friday, November 18th 2022, from 07.00
– 10.20 am EST (GMT-4).
